Is the 17" Powerbook worth the extra 300 euro, as compared to the 15" Powerbook?

depends what you want to use it for. I've been using a 15" for the last two-and-a-half years and it's fine for most things I do. However if you're going to be using FCP or any large-size image editing, then the extra screen real estate might make the difference. But to be honest, the 17" is a MONSTER in terms of luggability, you'll have a dropped shoulder carrying one of those yokes around. And if you're going to be doing serious FCP work or image editing, you'd be better off with a desktop anyway.

I guess 15" is the one I'd plum for, still.

The answer is YES. I have had a 17" for two years now and it great. It is more powerful than the 12" and the 15". As for luggability, it's great when travelling as it isn't that heavy. The big plus is the screen, it blows away the 12" and 15" in that regard.

As to the previous reply, it is really all about what you use it for. I got my Dad a 12" Powerbook and he thinks it is great for surfing, emailing, iPhotoing etc...

I would pay the extra €300, you do better performance and a great LCD. :)

It's not "much more powerful". The only performance difference between the current 15" and the 17" Powerbooks is the graphics memory... and 64 megs is fine if you're not playing games (and it's a Mac, so that's not likely :) )

How would you play games with only one butan anyway :)

I'd stick with the 15", the 17" isn't very portable, but if it primarily sits on your desk, it may be worth it.

Well, I got a fantastic deal on a new 15", so I've gone with that. Otherwise, I would have gone for the 17".

    Thanks everyone!
