    Anybody ever rented a car in the U.S.
    Did you need to buy CDW ( insurance ) or is it generally included ?

    The one thing about car rental in the US is that you MUST have a credit card, and it must be in the same name as the licence holder - otherwise, no go.

    They seem to use credit cards over there as a means of keeping a car rental history as well as just a means of getting money for the rental.

    Hi,

    I just got back from LA, Budget rent a car charged $556.00 for ten days hire with full comprehensive insurance, that means all the extras.

    I rented a jeep type SUV and recommend one if you can get it at the right price because it helps to see over the other cars.

    The traffic lights are up in the sky and they drive on the wrong side of the road :)

    Was in LA last Sept; best quote I got (and went with) was ebookers.ie. 509 Euro's for 14days (1 driver) for a Ford Mustang 3.7L!!!. It was a Hertz car... hertz's own website were looking for 660 Eur for the same car!!
    Can't recommend more than that!

    and other tips;
    --Credit card is needed (as mentioned above)
    --Brought international driver's license but wasn't required by Hertz at least
    --ensure it has 'unlimited milage' as standard.. I put up 2,600 miles .. no additional charge!
