I'm buying a monitor and am presently going for a €300 IIyama 17" from Komplett. At the last minute I'm toying with splashing out on a 19". The problem is that I'm finding it difficult finding one at a reasonable price with a low response time as well as a DVI connection. So, is a DVI connection really that important?

for the future yes it is important. all new graphics cards soon will be DVI only.
you will still be able to use DVI-A(analogue) on alot of the new cards. initially when DVI was introduced the graphics cards had problems converting the output to digital but with digital signals getting better soon DVI-D(digital) will be the only way to go. i have a samsung 193p, bought for €649 on komplett(think they are cheaper now).

it have DVI and VGA(D-SUB) on it and response times of about 20ms. samsung have a newer 19" monitor with much faster response times but it's quite pricey.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to go with the IIyama Prolite E431S. 19" is too rich for my blood right now!
