Hope this is the right forum. I have nearly 100 dvds of mine that i want to get shipped, altogether they nearly weigh around 9kg, where should i try to get them shipped to America, there wouldnt be a massive hurry to get them there. I shipped over some ornaments that weighed around 2kg and it cost 46 euro priority with An Post so i dont think thats an option.

    From DHL.ie a 9kg parcel will cost €165.25
This excludes VAT @ 21% and a fuel surcharge of 9%

There are companies that specialise in trans atlantic cargo.
I forget they're names, you see them in the student campus mags.

They ship by sea so it can take a month to arrive, but they are a lot cheaper.

None of your R2 discs will play on the TVs over there will they? Not sure if you can get dual standard tellies over there.

Some PAL DVD players can be switched to NTSC output AFAIK.

are you sure about that? I didnt think it had anything to do with the tellies, just if your dvd player was region locked? I watch them all on my pc anyway but im sure it doesnt have anything to do with the television, dvds anyway. Videos are a different matter.

It does require tvs to be able to switch from 60Hz to 50Hz, there is also the problem of resolution, our tvs are 625 line, US is 525.

The use of the terms PAL and NTSC for DVDs is a misnomer as they only refer to the colour encoding method which is the one thing that is not an issue for DVD discs.

    hey Ruu,

what about packing them in a suitcase whenu travel , justt eh dvd/s and inserts?

or put them in a spindle, package it up well and post it , but the cases over there, might save u some weight

i might mail the cases by themselves in a box and then mail the dvds with inserts, probably be cheaper too. I might end up bring a 5th suitcase, i dont really like the idea of putting me dvds in the luggage, just be afraid of dodgy baggage handlers and them getting smashed up. thanks for all the replies :)
