Need a bit of advice from anyone who ever got married in Rome...

The brother has decided that's where he wants to get hitched in Jan 2006.

Anyone on the board get married there or been to a wedding in Rome / Vatican City? Is it best to organise it yourself or go through a travel agents? Any pitfalls to keep an eye out for?

Any help, info, etc very much appreciated!

My sister got married in rome. Awesome place to get hitched! She even met the pope! As far as i remember best thing to do is sort it out yourself...you also save loads compared to what it would cost here. Best way to do it in my opinion. If i can get more info ill be back...

Got married in Rome a while back. Highly recommend staying away from the Irish College - conveyor belt type weddings, from what I hear.

We got married in St. Patrick's church, by accident. Mother-in-law rang the Italian embassy here, got two numbers, thought she was ringing the Irish College, but was in fact ringing St. Patrick's (and talking to an Irish priest). He asked her to consider St. Pat's, we said sure why not and the rest, as they say, is history.

They (the church) organised the photographer (something crazy like 120 pounds at the time for excellent quality pictures) and the video (again, incredibly professional, video was ready by 6:00pm that day, another 100ish pounds old money). Only transferred the video to DVD over the Christmas.

Stayed in the Savoy hotel, lovely people, put on a great spread for the 14 of us (friends and family). It's just up the road from St. Patrick's.

PM me if you have any more questions, I don't frequent the travel forums as much as I would like to.

Went to the girlfriend's brother's wedding in Rome two years ago. They got married in St. Patrick's....with 3 other couples! This was rather unusual apparently, but it's not uncommon to have two couples together there (well, at 'peak' times of year I presume). We didn't mind though.
They got great photographs organised by the church....cost only €250 including a lovely leather binder and the negatives (would cost at least a grand altogether here). Meal was organised by the church in an adjacent restaurant too......good but not great, but you could sort that out yourself.

They had the whole package (incl. accomodation) organised by a travel agent - not sure how much it cost. I would imagine it would be fairly simple to organise it yourself - use the web!

I can get onto them for more details if you want - just PM me.
