Anyone else watch this on Channel 4 last night?

I decided to take part in it myself, and it shocked the hell out of me how much I got right, like the rest... I'll wait until others say something before I continue, as I want to know how many have seen it, as it may confuse the
people who haven't, if I go into detail on it...

The URL of the event is:

Spiritualism is no more than trickery. Worse than that, it offers people who have been bereaved the false comfort of thinking they can communicate with lost loved ones. Throughout history there have always been individuals who claimed they could speak to the dead. In the 19th century, though, just as science and rationalism were gaining ground, the idea that the spirits of the dead could communicate with the living became known as spiritualism. This communication, it was asserted, could only occur through a person with special gifts, known as a medium.

    Thats from his website.
I start by picking the right people. Young people, who are more open-minded, and artistic people, who have vivid imaginations, are often particularly suggestible. Those in my show are young students, many of them studying arts subjects.

    Do you fit this bill?

Derren Brown is a mind 'controller' and 'manipulator', and he's damn good at it too. Didnt see this particular programme but love his stuff in general.

Ye especially that time when he did the russian roulette thing...that was fake. The police contacted the show asking if it was a real firearm and they said it was not because it was shot in Jersey. Great show and great to watch.

I like the guy, hes a great entertainer, and makes you think. But his assertion that all mediumship is fakery is completely one sided and ignorant. After all, you may be able to fake an orgasm ;) but does it then follow that all orgasms are fake?

With regards to any discipline, or even faith, you have both good and bad examples...

I thought that show was really good. Everything he does is based on human psychology. The bit where yer one behind the curtain threw the tamberine was funny.

I thought he was implying that mediumship is to do with physiogramy as opposed to magical powers ;) .

new word, physiogramy, can't find it in the dictionary or on google, is it a mispelling or could you explain the term?
    thanks.

hehe, yeah i'm was thinking to myself as i typed it it looked a bit dodgy. Physiorgramy (appologises on teh vocabulary, forgive me if i'm waaaay off) is the art of telling ones mind by looking at their face. I know that's a horribly over-simplified definition but that's the jest of it. An over-simplified example would be that you can tell if some1s pissed off by looking at their face. A more interesting example would be "mind reading"

If a medium can tell you names of your deceased relatives and other very specific info only you would know, just from looking at your face, it would be impressive anyway. I am familiar with how cold readingworks, which is why any good medium should NEVER ask questions, only give direct statements. Oh, and how does it work when youve never met the person or seen their face?

Well the mind works in the form of "states" One possible state may be anger, one fear etc.. You can tell what state of mind someone is in by looking at their facial expression, most notably in the eyes. If you direct a question/or sentence at a person you can make an educated guess as to what they're thinking based on the alteration of mind-state (seen on the face) the question had on the person. The thing is though, the sub-conscious can also be read by this method. I know that sounds too simple to be true but that's an elementary example.
