Multi Media Messaging Rip Off!

Since I got my Nokia 6230 I have tried to send pictures to various other phones. All though my phone would say “Message sent” they never would receive them. About 2 weeks ago I was in my local with my friend who has the same phone as me. I had this hot picture of a “female” on my phone and thought I would try to send it to him. Tried it a few times and he didn’t get any message. So that was that, back to drinking…

Yesterday my phone bill arrived here in the office and when I look through it I noticed that I had been charged for sending 4 Media Msg. I rang then up and they said “Yes they had been sent so you get charged for them”. My phone wasn’t even setup for Media Msg they had to send me the settings for my phone, then it worked!

This looks like some kind of scam that O2 have going here. How many people have got a new phone, tried to send a few pictures, rang up O2 to get there phone setup and then got billed for the one’s they sent that didn’t go anywhere???

I got them to go back through my bills to find out how much I had been charged since I signed up in November. This came to just under 5 euros. That all add’s up to be lot of money if this is happening on a large scale!

    PS: Check your bills!

If you both have 6230's why didn't you use bluetooth, it seems you are ripping yourself off also.

They way you said "so back to drinking" suggested the two of you were drinking together.

MMS don't work internationally at the moment.

    No problem,

I had sent him text picture earlier in the day, when he didn't get it he rang to ask why and they told him he had to wait till G3 was available!

they could afford to give us all free mms messages a while back for 1 month. it was a clever marketing proceduer, but it also showed us how much $$ they make off us.

Ok, MMS to international numbers does not officially work yet, i.e. if it works all well and good, if not, don't go moaning for help :)

A text picture? Would you mind clarifying what happened?

It may work, yes, however, if you check the tiny print, you'll be told that you will not be guaranteed delivery of MMS messages outside of your own network, never mind outside of your own country.

I'll have to get my reading glasses out for the small print. What can they guarantee? but is it right to charge you for it? and if it is fair to charge why did they refund me?

PS: My friend was able to send me picture's back from Amsterdam to my phone

They'll guarantee delivery on your own network, in your own country.

That's between you and your operator. If they charged you, and it didn't go through, then it's up to you to get a refund. It's within your legal rights to get a refund if you paid for a service you didn't receive.
    MickFarr wrote:

I'll say it again. It's not impossible to send MMS messages across country boundries, it's just not a guaranteed service. It may work or it may not.

I am genuinely speechless... Did I upset you or something?? :)

You might actually be surprised by what I do know and what advise I was considering giving you once I received clarification as to what exactly a text picture is, i.e. did you mean a SMS or an MMS containing just text..

Sorry, I am still laughing... :D
