got an nec 3520 a few weeks ago
everything great burns dvds as fast as the discs go
    burns cds the same

then the other day i installed a wifi card and, bam, cds and dvds are taking forever.

says there going at 48x but taking 20 mins to burn a cd
have tried alcohol, nero and winamp.

any obvious things that could be causing this and solutions other than remvoing the wifi card - tbh i havent tried taking the card so it may not be that [busy all week]

other things - ive installed a few random progs firewall/av/bt since getting broadband , but ive never had problems with these before.
-installed sp2 a few days ago but i think it was working ok after that.

    pc is a dell 2400
    celeron2.6
    256 ram
    160gig hdd

You might just check if the burner is in DMA mode. It could have slipped back into PIO somehow, which would explain slow burning speeds. To check, go to the device manager and view the burner properties.

hmm i had a problem with 6.6 before on the laptop so i avoided that.
i think 6.3.4 is on it but ill try another version later.
