Royal Irish Automobile Club Pioneer Run 2005

Celebrating the Birth of International Motorsport

    Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd July 2005.

Following on the success of last years RIAC Gordon Bennett Commemorative Run, we have made several changes to the 2005 event. Firstly, we have changed the name of the event to The Royal Irish Automobile Club Pioneer Run in order to avoid confusion with other events. We hope you will agree with us that this gives the event a distinctive title of its own while still allowing it to celebrate the birth of international motorsport in an appropriate manner.

Secondly, we have decided to hold a City Centre Concours d'Elegance on the afternoon of Saturday 2nd July, which is an optional addition, but we would encourage as many participants as possible to come along and enjoy the afternoon displaying your magnificent machines in a relaxed atmosphere in the heart of Dublin City. You might even win a prize!

Thirdly, we will have an informal Drinks reception at the RIAC Clubhouse on Saturday evening following the Concours d'Elegance.

Finally, we have decided to finish this year’s event at the Steam Museum in Straffan. This has several advantages; it is much closer to Dublin than last years finish and we can more easily leave tow-cars and trailers there over Saturday night with a bus transfer between Straffan and the RIAC several times during Saturday. In addition to having the finish, lunch and prize giving there, we will also have the coffee stop mid-way through the event there as well. Moreover, you will be able to enjoy the remainder of Sunday touring the Steam Museum, with its' many fascinating models and working steam engines. Something not to be missed.

Don't forget that overnight parking for participating vehicles is available in the RIAC garage in Dawson Street on both Friday and Saturday nights, but you must let us know if you intend to avail of this.

The entire Schedule for the weekend is as follows:

    Saturday 2nd July 2005

    • Check-in at RIAC (Event Headquarters) from 10.00 hrs to 18.30 hrs
    • Tow cars & Trailers to Straffan for overnight parking - Coach transfer between Straffan & RIAC at 10.30, 13.00 & 15.00 hrs
    • Concours d'Elegance competition at St Stephen’s Green, Dublin City Centre, (optional) 14.00 hrs to 17.00 hrs
    • Drinks Reception at RIAC 18.30 hrs to 20.00 hrs - Dress informal.

    Sunday 3rd July 2005

    • Check-in at RIAC from 08.00 hrs to 08.30 hrs
    • Garda facilitated Cavalcade from RIAC to Phoenix Park - departs 09.00 hrs
    • Official Start from Phoenix Park Visitor Centre 10.00 hrs
    • Run finishes at Straffan Steam Museum at 13.00 hrs - Lunch & Prize giving follows at 14.00 hrs

Those wishing to avail of 24 hr supervised overnight parking in the RIAC Garage at Dawson Street on Fri 1st and/or Sat 2nd July must indicate accordingly on the entry form and sign the declaration concerning insurance of their own vehicles as the RIAC cannot put in place any cover on vehicles of such value and rarity.

Clarinbridge, Co. Galway on Sunday 3rd of June. PM me if you're interested and I'll forward you the details.

There will be lots of Traction Avants, DSs, SMs, 2CVs, GSs, CXs - all Citroën models (old and new) are welcome. If you don't have one but are interested let me know and I'll see if I can arrange a seat.

    Folks,

A brief reminder for those who might be interested that the annual All Ireland Citroën Rally is on this Sunday 3rd of July (not June as previously stated) in Clarinbridge, Co. Galway. A few of us will be convoying down from Dublin on Sunday morning - 6:30am at the Texaco beside the Lucan exit of the N4.

Here's some pictures of a US rally I was at recently to whet your appetite - total page size is about 6MB so dial-up users, you have been warned.

Here's an excerpt of the blurb from the organisers.

    All Ireland Citroën Rally

This year’s rally will take place on Sun. 3rd July and will be based in the village of Clarinbridge, just east of Galway City and home of the renowned Oyster Festival.

Our run on Sunday will take us south along the Galway coastline and into the world famous area of the Burren - indeed “Car Magazine” rates our route around Black Head as one of the best coastal drives in Europe! There will be a refreshment stop at Monk’s Bar & Restaurant at Ballyvaughan and at the picturesque town of Kinvarra where there will be plenty of time to savour the views and atmosphere (outside or inside!).

Phoenix Park races are not on this year. Cancelled - I dont know why, probably cos there werent many entries, like for Formula Vee (which I race), it was 500 euro for 2 races. 2 years ago it was 390!!

Per the IVVCC website this classic run goes from Airfield House in Dundrum to Powerscourt in Enniskerry, departing Dundrum at 1.30. Has anyone been on this run in previous years? Seems like a short run, so does that mean it's mainly older cars? If so should be some nice cars on display.
    :)

Anybody here know of a Vintage/Classic show in Kells, Co. Meath ?

I believe it's either this Sunday (28th Aug), or next Sunday (4th Sept).

There was an ad on KFM today (didn't catch all of it) which mentioned classic cars, machinery, tractors and "digger driving" ???

According to the users of my new website, the nations favorite classic car show is the one in Terenure. The show which is run annually by the irish jag and daimler club got 67% of the votes. Well done ya'll.

The Trim Vintage and Veteran Car Rally- usually held in July.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,568 ✭✭✭Blue850

I boycott Trim cos 2 years ago I went in the Fiat 850 and it cost more to enter the field as an exhibitor than if I'd entered as a spectator

Best show to look after exhibitors has to be Mountbellew in Galway. Free entry and a plaque plus a proper sit down dinner .
