Upgrading/adding dual CPU??

I need to upgrade my CPU, but am not sure what's the best way to do it!

I have an AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.4Ghz, socket A type. Could I add one of these;http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=301831&cks=PRL
to it, as a dual setup?
Or do I have to replace the Thunderbird?

    Thanks, Barry.

Well, before we talk about anything else, what OS are you using? Not all of them support dual processor setups...

you can sometimes mix and match, but the result will be double the lesser of the 2 CPU's at best.

that said, you might find your mobo wont boot with a 333Mhz bus chip. It may even run slower than the thunderbird as the Multipler is set for use with a 333 bus

if it were my motherboard, id check out the latest BIOS for the board and see what the max it supports is, then grab two of them off ebay if they are no longer in production eg palomino etc.

Got agree with OS support - if running NT/2K/XP check in SYSTEM in control panel - best to get speed stepping and level to match. Had a server that I popped a second cpu into - windows booted, linux didn't until I got the cpu's exactly matched - getting NT to recognise a second CPU is fun - ignore everything on technet !

Also IIRC dos/ windows 3.1/9x and 2k Home / XP home won't use a second CPU.
most vairants of Linux do as does windows server and workstation/pro

you might be able to swap your CPU for someone who has a matched pair
also a second CPU won't boost speed by more than ~70% and that's only if the CPU is already running at 100% right now.
