Blue screen of death errors!!!

After much checking, and scanning I've worked out what seems to be the problem regarding my PC restarting itself randomly, now what the solution is is beyond me at this point.

The error log reports the following:

    The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000d1 (0x0000e100, 0x00000010, 0x00000001, 0xbfe4094b). Microsoft Windows 2000 [v15.2195].

To me this suggests a driver problem, and I'm almost sure that it's connected to the USB ADSL modem (crappy thing has no ethernet connection :(

As stated in my previous posts on this (apologies for constantly posting on the same subject mods) the new 250GB drive works fine when used for storage (it doesn't contain the OS that is currently in use) but causes the machine to reboot (almost always when connected to the web) when it does contain the OS currently in use...

I also got a blue screen of death that pretty much said that a driver installed had caused a STOP command in the kernel, what I'm thinking is that maybe the ZyXel drivers (modem) are interacting differently with the new hard disk and is causing a conflict (however there are no conflicts detected in device manager) although i have a sneaking suspicion that the driver CD for the motherboard could be interacting irregularly (I'm almost sure that I spotted a message in the setup process that mentioned something about certain drivers not being required for windows 2000, but not sure what ones...)

Well if anyone has any insights to this then I'd really appreciate the help, it's just the sheer disappointment of suffering the ****tiness of using 2 auld crappy 4.5GB drives for ages (albeit workin ok) and then finally getting my maulers on a 250GB drive the poxy thing dont even work right... doh!!!

Are you the same guy who was having trouble with a 250GB drive earlier in the week?

    If so...

It's highly unlikely that there's a conflict between the modem and the motherboard/HDD. Sounds more like the system doesn't like that HDD; maybe the BIOS can't handle that size drive. Have you checked and flashed the BIOS?

You restored a Ghost image, right? You got no errors? Have you verified the image?

Anyway, what I'm getting at is this - if it was me, and don't go nuts sayin I'm being unhelpful, I'd be reinstalling cleanly on the 250GB drive. So far, you've had nothing but trouble with whatever setup you're using. Blue screens and registry issues are the last this you need if you're planning on a stable machine.
A clean install will solve all this crap. But before you do anything - are you 100% sure the BIOS will support that drive? That's kinda fundamental to the whole thing working.

It's a pain in the arse, I know, but at the end you'll have a platform you know is 100%. Good luck with it anyway.

    Hi swamp,

Thanks, i appreciate the advice although it seems ive solved this puzzle, for now anyway, yeah i tried doing a clean install of win2k, that was the fist thing i did and it still wouldn't work, and as i said there were constant errors that seemed to be related to the usb modem so as a last ditch effort i went into the bios and disabled the onboard usb controller and hey presto it seems to be working fine now, ive left the machine running online for about 20 hours now and it aint restarted once! the modem is plugged into a usb pci card (which i already tried to no avail) but it seems that the board didn't like the on board usb working in unison with the new hard drive

Again thanks for the help, this was a really weird one, i don't even know what made me think of trying that with the usb, god works in mysterious ways eh? :D

Anyway i'm all happy now :D

    Al

Possibly a silly question: If you're using windows 2000, have you got large hard drive support enabled?

And that's relevant here, how ???? And it's Azureus - at least give correct information if nothing else.
