In relation to the 'dope' thread, some peoples argument is why can't 'dope' be legalized when something like drink is.

So...

Should alcohol be made illegal? If you had to choose what would you choose,

I for one think that it should be banned, for the simple fact that it does more harm than good.

I would be in favour of tobacco being banned because it does no good at all. Alcohol on the other hand is fine in moderation, although it is frequently abused in Ireland. Publicans and off licenses should be held responsible for selling too much drink to people; they know when people have had enough, but greed gets in the way.

No, it shouldn't. But alternatives, such as weed (/ducks for cover), should be made available.

"This drug for you" "this drug not for you"... mixed messages leading people to believe that one drug is safe while another is not. Neither are perfectly safe, neither are totally harmful. People need to be allowed to make an informed decision on their own behalf, not dictated by the state.

I think a better poll would have related to whether or not any substance should be banned to save us from ourselves.

Alcohol should not be banned. Why should it? "it does more harm than good", well that's not entirely true, red wine is good for you, it helps reduce the risk of getting cancer, but over doing it isnt. I've said enough, lets hear your argument on why it should be banned.

Doesn't matter, if it is banned people just won't pay attention to it, you'll just get a load of guys bootlegging the stuff just like in America during the proabition. Besides if pubs didn't serve alcohol, then what would be the point in going? The pubs would all be shut down. Do you want loads of people to lose their jobs?

I would love it to be banned for a while just to see what anti-drug minded people would do, would they go down down a dingy alley scoring bottles of poitin, or would they just accept the law and abstain like they expect other drug users to do at present.

I would really like to see every drug being made illegal and having to undergo assesment by an independent team of doctors like some organistation like the WHO. Many drugs which are legal today would not pass todays standards of testing and so would be illegal.

ALcahol has more reason to be banned than weed does. Liver-cancer, lung cancer it's all the same thing. And there has never been a recorded weed related fatality.
Having said that It's fun to be drunk therefore option 2
