The signal which your receiving is differant than the analougue service and unless Al Jazeria has a text service its unlikely that you'll be able to get subtitles, Same with TVE spanish channel, which is a pain in the arse when you can't understand everything because they talk so bloody quick.

Teletext is a totally digital system carried in spare lines of Analog TV pictures or on a separate stream in Digital broadcasting (i.e. separate from a MPEG picture).

Often but not always 888 is used for subtitles.

DVB (s, t, c or h) (i.e. Satellite Digital is DVBs) can also use Teletext or a separte system similar to subtitles on DVDs.

Thirdly a broadcaster can put "hard" subtitles as an overlay as part of picture.

Al Jazeera does not use ANY subtitles.

The IRANIAN IRIB1 and IRIB2 (Never call an Iranian an Arab) does however sometimes have englisg dubbing on a separate channel.

Sometimes on Turkish and German channels I have found English under "French" on Language.

TV5 for reasons best understood by French, often has FRENCH subtitles.

ARTE is often in French, German and sometimes English.

Oman often has USA language/programs with Arabic onscreen
The ONLY station I know that is NOT english and does English subtitles is I think TV Polonia on Polish Drama.

Al Jazeera is considering an English service.

Nile TV is Egyptian International service alternatly in French, Arabic, Hebrew(!) and English. It gives a quite different (somewhat Al Jazeera flavor) approach to ME news to Western TV! :-)

There is a Arabic news service with scrolling English Ticker tape. Al Alam??

If you are after English language news from the Arab world I think one of the Egyptian Channels (ESC or Nile news -cant remember which) have English news at certain times

Also from Northern Iraq Kurdistan TV and Kurdsat have English news bulletens

All these channels are on Hotbird (13 East)

The Israel Broadcasting Authority's Channel 33 (Arabic service) also broadcasts an English news programme daily from 16:35-17:00 UTC. The channel is on Hotbird (12207H, 27500, 3/4). It also shows US and UK films with Hebrew and Arabic subtitles and I even saw a live Premiership match recently, Arsenal v Newcastle. The commentary was in Hebrew.

Thanks Brian. I have that but never realised it had an English News.

Is Kol Israel (Radio) on Satellite?

Also Nile TV (Hotbird 13E) does sometimes have English subtitles now on Arabic Drama.

TRT International (Turkish) has occasional English News, but I don't have a schedule.

EDIT: This thread is about the information on getting the channel, and nothing political. This is not a political forum.

Thanks for all the info guys -very helpful

So Al Jazeira doesnt offer English Subtitles then, main reason is that we just found it and it would have been very interesting to get a different slant on the news.
    Thanks :)

Mod Edit >> as much as your opinion of Al Jazeera is appreciated, it's not appropriate to this thread. as was mentioned earlier in this thread this is about reception of the channel and English subtitles etc. etc.

not what they show and supposed links with terrorists

There was rumours some time ago that Al Jazeera were going to launch an English-speaking variant of their channel, but I've not heard much news on it in a while.

Actually the English news on IBA C3 / IBA C33 (Arabic service Israeli TV) is on Hotbird at 2.45pm to 3.15pm

English is on Left channel of "Israel Radio International" at published times for about 20 minutes periodically from early morning to late evening
