Anyone had any luck getting the ALDI TV card working under linux, Fedora in particular but any pointers would be appreciated

it uses the Philips SAA7134 chipset which is supported in recent 2.6 kernels (as a module in my case)

    Have the module loaded
just not having much luck with getting a TV app to actually display anything, the card seems to be detected and living at /dev/video0 which is the standard place for such things I believe

I've got one working, but only using the composite video input. It was fairly tricky, and in the end I had to trawl through the source code of the driver to get it working. Bear in mind I'm using the one they had on sale last year, but I suspect it's the same one. It's running on a 2.6.9 kernel on a Gentoo distro.

I am loading the module in /etc/modules.autoload with the line "saa7134 card=24". The card selection is important, as it tells the driver how to talk to the chipset. My suggestion is to remove the module, modprobe it with this card parameter, and try the TV app again.

Ok, now it looks like it should work with composite input and I get snow on the TV but the tuner doesn't tune.
Anyone any idea what tuner is fitted on this card ?

I have the i2C modules loaded (needed to talk to the tuner)

    Hi Brendan,

    Try modprobe saa7134 card=12 tuner=1 oss=1

I have it working with tvtime and xawtv. Works well for me. I assume it is the same card, a Tevion 7134.

Just Tried this still no luck even though it seems that this would be about the best choice for the card, still won't actually tune

I wonder did they have more than one batch of them?
Mine is the tevion 7134 (same as yerself), the box boasts of S.R.P.O technology and I bought it last week

Had a look at the Chips inside the tuner and it seems to be using a 4052BT for that job, I don't see that listed under tuners in the driver information

the video4windows drievrs haven't been updated for the saa7134 cards recently

I, in desperation tried a pinnacle card. that worked for picture but no sound even after trying all the likely module options. Not too worried about getting that one working, it always produced a crappy picture under windows anyway.

The tevion had a nice picture under windows, it's just that the software was crap and the linux box is the main machine

If one was to start again and buy a cheap TV card for use under linux what is most likely to work well ?

Just sticking with the saa7134 for the moment, have you set the options in Xawtv, e.g. TV Norm (should be PAL), Frequency table (Ireland) etc? These should be set and saved in xawtv.

Have you run scantv, a utility that scans all frequencies for stations?
