i broke a bone in my left wrist 2 and half years ago, and i've had persistant problems with it since.

i can't do press-ups or play football for fear of falling on it because its so weak.

does anyone know of any easy exercises i can do to strenghten my wrist?
    or any advice?

no crap **** jokes please, believe me, i've heard them all!

Im sure you've got yourself one of those sporting wrist bandages, they aid in the strenghtening of the wrist

Get a well fitting wrist support firstly and try to avoid aggravating the injury.

Grippers will do something for the area, but in my experience, generally you would be better off with up/down wrist curls and developing the whole forearm area.

I broke my left wrist snowboarding and fractured my right boxing, both injuries about 4 years ago - I still get some problems with the right if I don't have it strapped when lifting. However any day to day pain from holding something at a bad angle was all but gone after 3 years in the right.

Incidentally the broken wrist healed far faster and better.

To follow up some injuries will just be very difficult to treat, with all my previous injuries generally the best solution has been to develop support muscle which stops strain and gives added protection against aggravation thereby allowing it to heal.

Another possibility is depending on the break things might not have reset correctly.

Other considerations might be your diet, calcium etc or a medical condition whereby you have weak bone structure. Googling bone healing and food should bring something up though after 2 and a half years it's probably bit late to assist the rejoining process.

    JAK.

juggling strengthens the wrists to a surprising degree, particularly when using heavy beanbags. It is easy to learn to juggle three balls; most people can learn how within an hour if they are shown the correct method.

A traditional method for strengthening wrists in hurling is to grip the hurley with one hand and with your outstretched arm rotate your wrist with the hurley at full length.
If you dont have a hurley find a good length of wood or similar it does build up your forearm strength and your grip strength.

    Jaysus Kirn,

first time i go near the fitness board and you're all over that bad boy.
    Gas.

I can teach you how to juggle three balls. For serious. I'm not bein funny. (a myriad of jokes about balls dropping awaits..)

Anyway, it's simply two in right hand, one in left.

Throw one from right hand, and just as it begins to descend, throw the one from the left hand, inside the path of the descending ball.

As the second ball is rising, you'll catch the first one in your left hand. As the second one is descending towards your right hand, throw the right hand ball up, again, inside the path of the descending one.

    Repeat cycle.

Of course, those are just words. It takes practice.

I've been through the weak wrists odyssey - though it was more carpal tunnel (RSI) condition that build up over years of being a software engineer. They'd gone so weak I couldn't lift a mug of tea without having to use both hands.

A combination of weekly acupuncture sessions, extra glasses of milk for calcium (can't stand cheese, I'd rather eat backyard clay), and wrist curls with increasingly heavier dumbbells did the trick in my case. Practice with a hurley would do good too, though I'm not of a sporting bent so I didn't have one handy. ;) With regard to the exercise itself, I strongly recommend curling the weight with your palms facing down as well as up, even though the former position is more difficult.

For the sceptics, I had X-rays taken three months apart, like a "before and after" setup. They showed a positive change in wrist bone condition, from thinning and a candidate for a rheumatologist, to strong and normal bone density.

    Just my EUR0.00001 contribution....

I've been using a powerball for a shoulder injury and it's just great.

Without trying to sound like a cheap tv-ad, I never knew that exerceise could be so much fun !

But get the one with the digital counter.
