Williams-BMW have confirmed Nick Heidfeld as their second race driver for the forthcoming Formula One season.
Heidfeld and Antonio Pizzonia both signed identical contracts with Williams several weeks ago, but the team waited until today to confirm who would partner Mark Webber for the 2005 season.

Williams confirmed today that Heidfeld had secured the vacancy in the race team, with Pizzonia set to resume his role as test driver.

I'm absolutely delighted that Nick Heidfeld has signed for BMW Williams for 2005. He has been one of the most underrated drivers in formula one and now finally he has got his deserved opportunity with a massive team. I remember watching him back in 1999 on the way to winning the F3000 title and he looked like he was going to be a future F1 champion. Sadly though he hasn't had the luck with his drives (Prost in 2000). I remember when he was teamates with Raikkonnen at Sauber in 2001 and he was far more impressive than Kimi but yet Kimi got the break with McLaren. He quietly did a stunning job last season in an uncompetitive Jordan and I have no doubt that he and Mark Webber will become great teamates. Now lets hope Williams supply them with a great car!
