My pockets are sagging with the useless coins 1,2 and even 5s that we ended up with as part of the Euro changeover.

Apart from a jamjar what other ways are there to get rid of them?

Stick them in charity boxes, the kind you normally see in corner shops. I always dump my copper change in those.

I just dump all my shrapnel into an over-sized vodka bottle and cash it in when I'm broke...

There's a machine in Centra in Drumcondra you dump all your change into and it counts it automatically and gives you a receipt the give you cash for at the desk.

25% (approx) service charge though and I don't fancy trusting the little boxy yoke...

Work out if theres still any countries outside the euro zone whos coinage corresponds in dimensions and weight to our old coins. Then find the one that gives the most favourable exchange ratio and promptly book yourself a weekend break there. Upon arrival at your destination find the nearest arcade/casino, dump all your coins into their change machine and scoop up all the local currency. Now you can live like a king for a couple of days, spending your recently acquired booty on beer and prostitutes.

Alternatively just sharpen the edges of your coins with an angle grinder and then throw them at passing chavs.

In alot of European countries they wont give you change of less than 5c ie if something comes to €9.97, and you hand across a €20, you will get €10 change, and not the loose.

I fill an oversized vodka bottle every year, count it around mid december. There is normally a good €200 there. Well handy bonus of cash you didnt even realise you were saving.

I usually throw all my change each night in to a container. Count it about once a month. Get about €40-€50 on average.
