Removing or preventing access to IE

I would like to stop a user from using IE (Windows ME) and force them to use Firefox as their default browser. The reason is for security as the user cant so no to any install prompts etc... I know I could use Zone Alarm (password protected) but a way can be found around this. I would like to prevent access rather than remove (Windows updates) if thats possible. Any ideas?

    Thanks

You cant actually uninstall IE from windows machines, its kinda sucks but thats the game Microsoft are playing. Just delete all Shortcuts to IE and make sure FF is your default broswer?
Ps: Id get Kerio Personal Firewall if I was you.

Thanks. Does Kerio allow you to password protect its settings? I know ZA does.

Use your firewall to block internet access to both Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.

Microsoft once developed a version of IE for Unix OSs. :)

Are you in a domain-based network where people do a server logon? If so, just point IE to a non-existant proxy server and then lock down the settings - you can do all of this using Group Policy or NTConfig.POL files.

You could also remove the DNS settings - this would stop either browser getting out - pain in the neck is that windowsupdate keeps moving so you couldn't just add it to the host file.

if you have a proxy then you could setup FF to point at it and not IE.

Thanks for all the tips. Its a stand alone machine. No domain. I think I will try IE Eradicator, has anyone had any experience with it?

remove links from IE and give Firefox the Icon from IE, if it is a user, they won't notice the difference and you can say it is the new IE layout with the Firefox engine, hehe
