I've been looking to a place online, and I was wondering, some websites offer you

domain name registration, for some fee and hosting, I don't get it, if you get only domain, how are you going to use it? I mean it's only name and you don't have a space or anything, and how can you have hosting without domain? they offer hosting separatelly, but where are you going to find you webspace with out domain?

    I'm confused.

You may already have a domain or you may just want to use it for storage?

both, but if you just only have a domain, what are you going to do with it? I mean without space

There are countless companies that will sell you a hosting service for that domain. That will get you some space on their server (how much space depends on how much you're willing to pay), at least a few email addresses, maybe an FTP service. Shop around, there's no shortage of place to choose from.

Alternatively, if you have DSL into your home, you might want to host your own server.

can you buy a domain name from one company and then guy a hosting from another?, but how can you add hosting to your domain if it's from different company?

this is so confusing I will just stop

    Thanks everyone

Once you have purchased your hosting service, simply ask your domain registrar to point it towards hosting company's nameservers.

you can get domains from anywhere and use them with any hosting company

And secondly, domains work based on registry, to which u can update the 'nameservers' these are servers that a client queries to find out the ip(and hence location) of the website. So when you changing hosting providers you can change the nameserver records in the registry to point to your new hosting provider.
