non-ECC memory in Dell Poweredges?

    Hi,

I'm thinking of getting some dell poweredges (looking at the 800 in particular but also at the SC1420 or SC420) but they all seem to come with ECC memory as standard. Has anyone tried to put non-ECC memory into one or even know if it's possible?

    Thanks,

    Aoife

If you haven't bought the memory yet go to www.shop4memory.com - you can lookup the memory for a particular model of Dell , they are resonable priced and since they are based in Leixlip delivery is fairly fast.

If you have pulled memory then look up the memory from the machine it came from. (not recomeneded for a mission critical server - buy new memory)

If you haven't bought the server yet - then ring up Dell and let them know its a PRE-Sales query.

I haven't bought these yet (or the memory), but they're brand new, so most of those websites that sell memory don't have information about the newest servers. Crucial.com for example only recommends ECC ram (but i'm guessing that's because the servers are shipped by default with ECC ram).

I'll probably just ring dell, but won't they just try and sell me the more expensive ram anyway?
