Have an old packard bell club 40k

I have upgraded the hard disk to 6.4gb

    I have formatted the 6.4gb

I insert the Master CD 1 into the CD ROM Drive and the red recovery floppy into the A Drive.

It comes to the part where it tries to access the CD and then asks for the operating CD ROM, I put in a Windows98 CD ROM and gives a error 10 message.

Can anyone help me? Is there any other way to restore from the Master CDs?

long time since i did that.

if its like mine you should have 2 master cds
you dont need a windoes disc as all the info is on the 2 cds

    hope this helps ...

When adding/replacing hard drives in packard bells, the hard drives need to be tattooed in order for the rceovery to check that the computer is a genuine packard bell and also to tell the recovery what software and drivers to install.

    The procedure for tattooing is:

Boot to the floppy with MCD1 in the drive, select F8 as the computer accesses floppy and select command prompt only from boot options.

    type cdinst.

change to cd drive with MCD1 in it.

    type EXTHS /RESETEXTHS

change to drivers folder "cd drivers".

    type TATTOO /INITHSPRETEST

change back to root of cd "cd.."

    type EXTHS /RESTORE.

you'll be asked for information on the hardware and software build of the machine, each software build is different, different drivers and software, could select any and it will probably load windows at least and you can get drivers for anything missing.

At the end it will ask for a tech support code, type in PBE98.

after this go to the drivers folder "cd drivers".

    type TATTOO /CREATEDMIFROMHS

    reboot and try recovery.

if you get glue part errors, first try deleting any primary partitions on the drive or else format the primary partition and call it HDD.

If this doesnt work you'll have to call packard bell and ask them to guide you through the tattoo process
