    So it was an excercise in entrapment?

    Check your temporary internet files.

    Better off posting the question on the relevant college board, as each college implements it's network logon differently.

    I don't think boards has the space to store the amount of times that I would have to say never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never* give out your password to anyone...

    You most likely won't be able to check without going to your Computer Services desk...

    *Actual number of "never"s is estimated to be something in the range of 10^2,568,142

    simple - change your password and see when he notices.

    if he does anything illegal then the finger points at you, you have as our american friends say "given him power of attorney"

    You are. All activity performed under your username is your responsibility. It's your responsibility to ensure that you remember to log off. This will all be in your college's Acceptable Usage Policy.

    From a legal POV, if you can prove that you weren't at the computer while the activity was taking place (i.e. your mates will say you were on the piss with them, and that is assuming that the activity that took place couldn't have been automated) then you wouldn't be prosecuted. If it was serious the college are still likely (and well within their rights) to revoke all your computer priviledges and initiate disciplinary procedures for allowing a security breach in the network and violating the AUP.

    Acceptable Use Policy

    Computer and Network Systems

    Providing an efficient and reliable computing and networking service depends on the cooperation of all users. It is therefore important that you are aware of your responsibilities to other users and to the providers of services.

    You must use the resources in a responsible manner and you must respect the integrity of computer systems, networks and data to which you have access, and follow any rules and regulations governing their use.
    Rules

    In particular you are not permitted to:

    1. engage in activities which waste resources (people, networks, computers);
    2. engage in activities which are liable to cause a disruption or denial of service to other users;
    3. use computer or network resources to access or distribute offensive, obscene, abusive, or threatening material;
    4. use computer or network resources for any activities which contravene the laws of State,or the destination country in the case of data being transmitted abroad;
    5. use computer or network resources for commercial activities which are not a part of your work in UCC;
    6. infringe copyright or the proprietary rights of software;
    7. share userIDs or usernames, transfer them to other users, or divulge your passwords to other users;
    8. access, modify, or interfere with computer material, data, displays, or storage media belonging to the University or another user, except with their permission.
    9. connect unauthorised equipment to the campus network or public data networks.

    Notes

    1. While network traffic is not normally monitored, it may be necessary if there is reason to suspect that this Acceptable Use Policy is being breached, or for the purposes of backup or problem-solving. You must therefore be aware that such monitoring may occur.
    2. Where you knowingly access chargeable services (eg commercial online databases) you and/or your department will be liable for any charges incurred.
    3. If you keep (or intend keeping) personal data about others on a computer, you may need to comply with the provisions of the Data Protection Act, 1988, and any subsequent legislation.
    4. This Acceptable Use Policy is reviewed from time to time and any new regulations must be observed by all users. Failure to comply with these regulations will result in the service being withdrawn.
    5. The attention of all network users is drawn to the fact that attempts at ‘hacking’ across networks may result in criminal prosecution here or elsewhere.
    6. The sending of SPAM (unsolicited bulk e-mail) is a breach of this Acceptable Use Policy.
    7. If any breach of this Acceptable Use Policy is observed. then disciplinary action up to and including dismissal in the case of staff or expulsion in the case of students, may be taken in accordance with the University's Disciplinary Procedure.

    Approved by the I.T. Policy Committee - 7th April 2004

    There You Go. Don't share passwords.
