You could Try Giant Anti Spyware, it has worked for me where all others have failed, I'm pretty sure you can get a 15 day trial on download.com

The spyware has to start with windows to do anything. Get this program:

    http://www.spychecker.com/program/autostartmgr.html

it lists the programs that start with windows. the spyware will be the one you don't recognise or if you can't spot it, uncheck everything on the list and close autostartmgr. open it again in 5 mins and one will probably be checked again. that will most likely be spyware. It will probably be in the system32 folder or in a folder with the same name as the exe in the system32 folder. And the name will probably looked like random letters. All spyware is different so I can't guarantee this stuff

There may be two programs, each of which opens the other one again if it gets closed. If you try to delete the files you can't because they're in use. If you end the process of one, the other spyware program opens it again.

take a note of where the (maybe two) exes are, then restart in safe mode (keep hitting F8 at the first screen where it lists the IDE devices etc). It mightn't be F8 on your computer. In safe mode the spyware won't start so you can delete them from there. And problem solved. The rest of the apyware stuff is still there but without that program it never starts and does no harm. It got rid of loads for me.

Doing it this way shouldn't harm anything you don't want to. If you do it and then find that one of your programs doesn't work anymore (highly unlikely), just take the program out of the recycle bin. But if it is associated with a program, an exe would be in the program's folder in program files, not the system32 folder. And nothing that comes as standard with windows in the system32 folder is set to start with the computer so you won't damage the OS. Good luck

Also try HijackThis and Regcleaner . They look at what's in your registry so be careful what you delete!

Giant was bought by Microsoft, and their Spyware product has now become Windows AnitSpyware. Since this would contain the latest definitions, I'd use this before the download.com trials.

Get Microsoft AntiSpy Beta 1 from www.microsoft.com. It finds all spyware. Finds stuff that Ad-aware and Spybot miss.

Microsoft Antispyware is supposed to be the beeZ kneeZ of spyware killers atm. Will require subscription after the betas ended though.

Will people please stop saying that? MIcrosoft have yet to formally announce what they are going to do regarding subscriptions, all that has been said so far is that they haven't ruled out the idea yet...

Hope you don't mind me using this thread but my problem may be bcoz of spyware so here goes anywho.

I recently updated to NIS 2005, from 2004. Decided to do my weekly scan as you do. Shut down, restarted in Safe Mode to scan of course. However Norton Antivirus won't seem to run in Safe Mode anymore. I last scanned on the 17th & everything was O.K. but now I seem to have a problem.

I know that NIS don't work anyway in Safe Mode but the NIS work station usually still appeared, but there is no work station @ all now. So I can't access the Antivirus program from there. I tried clicking on the short-cut, and I tried opening it through the start --> programs menu, but each time the computer thinks for about 20 seconds and then a small box pops up that says "Symantec Integrator has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for this inconvenience." It also gives me the obligatory, choice to send an error report to Microsoft.

So any1 know what might be happening. I have Ad Aware to back up NIS but it didn't find anything. I can run Norton Antivirus fine in regular mode (did that earlier & never found anytin) but it won't work in Safe Mode.
So do I possibly have a virus, worm, Adware, Spyware etc or is it just NIS conflicting with itself as it tends to do.

    Thanx in advance

NIS upgrades can be problematic. Try uninstalling it and reinstalling.
