    Hi,
I have Model 40205 Rev B211 Pal-I of a WinTV Hauppage USB tv adaptor.

I tried hook the cable that goes into my tv (not scart) into the arial connection on my wintv device. I got the picture fine but I wasn't able to get sound. What do I need to do? I tried different audio options but nothing worked.

The cable is situated downstairs. What is the best way to get it upstairs for use on my laptop? Is there a wireless sollution or does it have to be wired along the wall?

    Thanks!

I had that ( I think). The Hauppage website has a long involved troubleshooting page for audio problems which might be worth a look - it certainly helped me..

Not too sure about wireless option - I don't know if any of the video-senders send the full output from a coax aerial - usually they will connect to the source tv and just transmit the channel currently being shown..

were you able to get sound from only the coax aerial being attached?
    thanks!

You have to connect the audio-out on your tv card to the line-in on your sound card or motherboard.

Jebus! that was easy!! Thanks allot! I did that before but I haven't used the thing in ages and well... I guess some things just slip your mind! now.... to get the cable upstairs?....

if you want to be able to change channel and someone else watch tv downstairs
your only choice is to run the cable up to the room. cheapest option too.

could be messy, the wires aren't exactly thin like phone line wires

Yet another laptop thread!!!! The Guinness book of records awaits!!! :)

You could always get NTL to bring in an extra point! but it adds to your monthly bill! anyway aren't you supposed to bring laptops to..........rather than bring stuff to laptops? :)

Nah, I want my laptop to do everything! it's so much easier than having a tv, ps2 and everything else taking up space.

I'm just about to start another thread.. keep an eye out in the next 5 mins;)

There should definitely be a stickie in every forum on boards called 'Cormie's Laptop'

This is one area a think it's best not to. Get yourself an old PC, stick a wireless card and big HD in it, and install something like MythTV. Then it can sit there all day automatically recording all the stuff you like, and you can watch them anywhere on your laptop over the wireless network.

thanks for the tip but that's not really the reason I want it. I'm not a tv person and I'm not a gamer either. I watch maybe an hour of tv a month on average and the only game i ever play is pro evolution soccer. I just want my laptop to do everything it can do instead of having bulk everywhere :)

I think there must be scope here to transfer this to the personal issues forum as something like ''laptop empowerment problem'' or 'Am I expecting too much from my laptop''.

Hmmm... that gives me an idea, maybe I could network up the dishwasher, cooker, toaster and microwave so I can make it cook my dinner and do the dishes:)
