    Right,

Just looking for a bit of advice really. Im upgrading my system to an Athlon 64 based solution and I need a bit of help choosing the best motherboard and cpu combo.

To be honest the whole things a bit confusing and I can't find any "this ones better than that and this is the Best!" style information around.

At the moment I'm thinking of:

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=301893
    Abit AV8 motherboard

    combined with

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=304047
    Socket 939 Athlon 3200

Memory also seems a bit confusing, at the moment I'm using two 512mb sticks of 400mhz Crucial DDR and would be keen for these to work in the new board as well.

So what you reckon? Is this the best option or can I get better. Budget is around 400 for the board, cpu and cooling.

    Cheers for any help.

    Chris

the mobo and chip look good, i ordered the same ones a few weeks back. :D
they are both great for overclocking too if your into that.

not sure but id assume that you will have no problems with the memory

The Abit AV8 is horrible for overclocking.....and you probably need to flash the bios to get the 3200 to work.....( you will need a non whinchester socket 939 chip) Ram should be fine.

You couldn't recommend a mb for that chip then could you?

Sorry to be a pain but I havn't got a clue.

    Cheers

I guess it depends whether you are going to overclock your chip. MSI K8N is one of the best mobo out there for overclocking but it requires a lot of tuning.
I am not sure about this but I think most 939 mobo may have problem first time booting with a winchester. I think Asus are probably the only thats fix it with their revision 2 boards.
