AAARGH!! :mad: Today they stole my minidisc player from my bag. Let me set the scene for you; Belfield. Chem building. Our first chem lab. We had to leave our bags n shiit outside. Yes, yes, i was slightly uneasy about that, but ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE ELSE DOES IT! So (3hrs later), I come back out of the lab. BAM! no more minidisc. The fukking scum. They took it all. That cost me 300quid back in the day. And i used it everyday!!!! :mad:
They should have somewhere for our bags n shiite during the labs. Agree with me! ...Cmon, Gill needs this!

What can i do? I only found out about it on the bus on the way home, and I've no idea who took it! Grrr i can just see 'em now, laughin it up, listenin to my music!!!!!!! I doubt if it was someone in 1st eng... but you just don't know...

Naw i just have the one in earlsfort terrace. I hadnt organised a locker in belfield yet coz it was only our first chem lab o' the year today. I'll be gettin one now tho i can tell ye. Do they have a camera/s in the chem bldg? in the hallway nxt to the entrance? I fukking hope so

well was anything else taken from your bag? or was anything taken from anyone else's bag? if not, then do you not think theres a slight possibility that you lost it?

either way it sucks.

Google the mini-disc to get a pic of it, and throw up loads of posters around the place (just A4 ones - print em on the cheap). Offer a reward if you want. But you shouldn't just accept it was taken, talk to security about it, then give out to someone in chemistry about having to leave your stuff outside.

Yeah i think on one hand you maybe should have stuck it in your pocket, even the pocket of your lab coat. But as a 3rd Elec. Eng. i've been there too. Never had anything missing from outside the chem labs but i didn't see the point of leaving the bags outside - there's **** loads of room in there anyways. There's no cameras in that building. A4 poster the place and talk to Security - if you think it's a delicate matter, the person to talk to is Aisling Kennedy - she's in the Arts services desk usually.

there have been many incidents of theft within UCD, it's external bods principally because it's soft pickings. I'r report it both to services and the science faculty office. Especially mentioning that it was on instruction and after your objection that you were forced to leave your stuff there - i.e. the onus should be on the dept to provide protection and not the otherway around if they are forcing you to do something.

If you wanna pop up your proposed letter here for us to critique first I'll have a peek for you. Let people know that you're unhappy and that it was their procedures caused your loss - and what they gonna do about it...

I'd definitely talk to people at the science services desk about that. There's often people walking around outside the lab, and someone may have seen something, or even mentioned something to services. A person going through everyones bags and coats would have looked quite suspicious - unless they knew what they were looking for of course. Are you quite sure you didn't leave it in a lecture hall or anything? It's incredibly annoying to lose/have stolen something like that though, and it's a terrible thing to happen

(flashes back to when my bike was stolen) Stupid chem labs...I always hated them in 1st year! But don't worry, you won't have to do them any more - unless of course you're doing chem eng!

The amount of people who just hang around in UCD is unbelieveable. Of course you could never tell who is a student and who isn't, so what can you do?

Probably should have taken it with you, but it's great to speculate now. No bags in the chemistry lab is probably safety concerns. If the lab has to be cleared, there'll always be one moron who's left his bag in the worst position so everyone trips over it.

Even with that though, they should provide some sort of cubby holes at the back to put your bags into.

Seriously that is a bitch getting your minidisc stolen. Last year I heard of someone who had their jacket stolen from the sports hall and whoever stole the jacket found the keys to this blokes scooter and stole the fcuking scooter. There are alot of dodgy people out in this place and just because people are students does not mean that there is no criminals out here.

Dude that sucks ass...any insurance on it? I know if anyone stole my minidisc, I'd be broken...bob (thats my mini disc-hey guys name their cars!) and i have been joined at the hip-quite literally-since he first came into my life, and opened my eyes, and closed my ears to the D4 wagons, skool kids, etc on the buses....

If you'r looking to replace it on the cheap i'd try the buy and sell, my mate did that after hers was nicked and got a pretty good deal...or try agent smith :rolleyes:

Yeah i know i feel pretty stupid for leavin it there now, but everyone else left there **** there! I really didnt think i'd have to worry... I'll try n get a few posters of it but its been hard to find a picture. The fact that its nearly a week later doesnt help much. I talked to the guy at the desk in the science lecture bldg but he was like "...eh, we'll keep a record of it...". fukc that.
no i'm not doin chem i'm in mech. I'm nearly positive i didnt lose it, 'cause i only ever take it out on the bus, never actually in college. It was all i had to block out the clowns gossiping in the seats behind me....Well thanks for the ideas lads anyway.

While it is stupid that they make you leave your bag there without providing some way of protecting, the guy that was ushering us in for our first practical did actually say something along the lines of "Don't leave any valuables in your bags as one of YOU will steal it"
Anywho I'm sure all this hind-sight advice is of great use to you. :rolleyes:
