Where would be the best place to buy Half Life 1. Play.com, sendit.com either don't have it or its not in stock for the last ages. Can you purchase it or a new key through steam?

A friend couldn't find it in game either. :S

If you buy half life 2 through www.steampowered.com you get half life 1 for nothing. Be warned though if you dont have broadband forget about it as it is a very big download.

I have Half Life 1 & 2 myself already. I thought you only got Half Life 1 and all other values old games if you purchased steam silver, which including tax etc is a bit of a rip off.

Getting it on cd would suit my friend more than all the downloading etc, also Half Life 2 would probally struggle on their pc and its probally not a game they want, or willing to pay for. Reason for wanting Half Life 1 is mostly for cs and other mods to play casually and because you should be able to pick it up cheap, but I can't find the bloody thing.

Game and Smyths in clondalkin both have it for 11.99 in the budget range.

Both have a good few copies was in both yesterday and still had it.

A word of warning about HL1: I bought a copy a few years back (having lost my original) and when I tried to use it on my XP machine it wouldn't read. I tried several work arounds and no-CD-hacks and nothing worked.
It's a known issue, even on the amazon review section, so just be careful when you or your mate buy it...

ah I have it working on my XP, never installed it on it tho, just had the folder from a previous install so I wouldn't be too worried about getting it working, just want the proper key.

Thanks for the replies, actually found it in a few places just after I posted that, but my previous reply timed out and I never noticed.

Apparently game on henry street have half life blueshift for under 20 aswell, but I think i'll try get one of those budget ones, really just want it for the cheapest as possible.

When I recently installed HL1 on XP it came up with a warning that it wasn't compatable. So I got the latest patch and it worked perfectly.

It's very cheap in Game, and if I recall correctly it's on a "3 for 2" offer aswell (which includes some of the Mech games, Grim Fandago, Black and White, etc).
