Got the standard eircom (Netopia) wireless gear. The default connection 7### ####, appears alright but I don't know how to stop others using it. When I go to change the SSID in properties it is greyed out so I can't do anything. I threw out the manual so I can't consult that. I tried setting up my own connection but it just wont connect with that. Any ideas?

Cheers for that Champ, I tried it but still no joy, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but nothing. I still can't change my SSID. It's quite the problem as my neighbours are hijacking the connection. Any ideas?

There is a reset button beside where you plug in the power connector try that, maybe your hijacking neighbours have been at your router, once it's reset turn on wpa or wep, change the SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.

    Hmmm,
Have you tried any other methods to stop unauthorised access?
    (A) Filtering by Mac Address
    (B) Changing default internal network address
    (C) WEP or WPA (strongly preferred over WEP)
    (D) Disable DHCP

You sure you neighbours have accessed it?
They would have to know the default network assignment to do that (assuming you haven't changed it).

    Have you contacted Eircom support?
I presume you at least changed the default login details so your neighbours wouldn't be able to lock you out of your own router?

The only logical reason i can think of that the SSID isn't available, and bare in mind that i haven't used a Netopia Wireless router is that the wireless point isn't enabled?

A shotgun solution maybe a firmware reinstall / update but do your research first.. i.e make sure you don't need customised Eircom firmware and know the default login details or you just may end up with a paper weight...

Are you using firefox to access your settings? Try IE as I seem to remember something simular to this problem. May be browser related.
