Acer Laptops: Anyone know if they're any good?

I'm considering buying an Acer latop (either the Travelmate or the Travelmate 2702) off www.acernotebooks.co.uk.

They seem to have a few good deals, but before I jump in: anyone know if they're any good as a brand? Anyone hear any major complaints about them lately?

Be warned that there are issues with Irish registered credit cards on that site.

Acer are very good in my opinion. A friend of mine has had one for years and he's been pleased with it. I just sold one to a different friend. I was very impressed by it I must say. I didn't get to try it performance wise (it was a Celeron) but the build quality and just general feel/weight to it was very very nice. It was a pre Christmas special.

Anyhow as I said. I'm impressed by what I've seen anyhow.

I've got an Acer TravelMate 244LM laptop. I wasn't looking for performance, that's what my desktop PC is for. Bought it in November 2003 in PC World in Liffey Valley with a 2 year warranty.

I'm very impressed with the laptop though. It never crashes on me and the build quality is excellent. I'm not sure about technical support because I never needed to call them.
Its a little sluggish compared to my PC, its a Celeron 2.6GHz, but my PC is an Athlon 64 3000+ so that might explain why!

I've also got an Acer AL1711 17" LCD monitor for my PC and it rocks. I'd highly recommend Acer to anyone.

Had the one down in my signature for about a 1.5 years now and no trouble what so ever, I'd much prefer to get an acer than a dell, same components for less money.:D

Sounds good, so! As for the credit card thing, I'm sure I can use bank draft or some alternate method of payment!

Bear in mind that if something does go wrong with it, you'll have to send it to the uk for repairs. Motherboard on mine died last year and had to send it to Plympton near Plymouth in Devon for repair. I had to pay for postage there, cost something like €30, could only insure it for €1000 too...

Other than that, have had no probs. Got it from Elara Systems. Good battery, too, lasts about three hours.

Im told they are repaired in Dublin these days. Bought the extended 3yr "Do anything to you laptop and we will fix it" Warrenty. Im tempted to drop it just to see what the service is like ;)

    Snap!

Cracking little machine, and definitely more bang for your buck compared to other well-known brands.

All is free of charge thoughunder the warrenty and they promise a 10 day turn around.
