simple Q: is this offer good?

hey all, this is not one of those 'where can i buy X' questions, but a simple one: i saw an offer for an external hard drive

"LaCie 160GB 7200 rpm USB 2.0, hard drive with USB2 cable. 28MB/s sustained transfer rate. "

for 140 EX VAT, or 170 incl VAT. seems good to me but i dont really have my finger on the pulse of hard drive prices any more, is this a good deal or what?

just lookin for your opinions on this since i reckon ye'd know off the top of yer heads if its good or not. i looked around a few online store sites but it is hard to match like for like exactly cos its difficult to find a sufficiently similar spec drive to compare with.

Not bad, but not great. Komplett averages around €85 for a 160GB 7200rpm HDD, and between €40 and €75 for a case. Including VAT.

Even the most expensive HDD case/pair (at this size) on Komplett comes out at €163 (incl VAT, ex delivery).

Is there anything special about the HDD - bigger cache for e.g.?

cool thanks for the info Seamus. as far as i know there is nothing special about the hard drive, it is not specified anyway which suggests that there isnt, the offer didnt mention cache size at all in fact which i take to be a bad thing.

well i think i'll hold off on this one then and get the finger out and look into buying it at Komplett or something, i just didnt want to miss this one and regret it later so thanks a million for your help.

I'd go with what Seamus said too, I might even encourage you to just grab a 200GB hard drive while you're at it
