    ok folks,
whoever can fix this for my will have my undying respect and/or a whole load of pints at the next boardstock.
I cant access webpages on my pc at home,i can access msn msngr,IRC,game servers etc.. but no webpages. I rang IOL's brilliant tech support and all they said was "You have a virus". Ive ran every virus checker/syware checker i can get my hands on and still to no avail. Im getting a VSINIT.dll error everytime i boot up my pc and i can connect to webpages for a few minutes and then it cuts off again. Afaik VSINIT.dll has something to do with my zone labs firewall but it wont let me uninstall or reinstall the firewall...
Ive been at this for the past 3 days and im back to square one
    PLEASE somebody help me!

Couple of things to try, um what OS?

If XP - reset tcp/ip, start run: netsh int ip reset reset.txt
    - search for and delete winsock.dll in c:\windows\system32 , then reboot
    - add dns numbers, don't know IOL's but could try eircom's: 159.134.237.6 159.134.248.17

Any os prior to XP, recreat dun, check for multiple versions of tcp/ip, reinstall network components.

    ALSO heh, brain storming rarr

is it dialup? if so your modem may be going out of sync with the server, try adding this string to modem properties extra initialization commands: AT+MS=V90

What happens when you try to access a webpage? Which error message/page comes up?
Is it the same with all browsers, and with ZoneAlarm disabled?
Is it a recent problem? Restore points?
    Have you changed NICs recently?

I used Zone alarm for ages til i worked out it sucked . Its too fickle and uses too many resources . Use Sygate Personal Firewall , its free and does one hell of a job . It also shows you what file or program thats trying to upload data and to where , which is amazing detail . Good luck

Are you using a Virtual Network Connection through a firewall into your work system?

I used to get into my work system through their firewall over IOL Broadband. It was a SonicWall hardware Firewall. I had to install a client on my system to get it up and running. Only problem was it disabled Web Access through IE (other browsers worked fine and everything else did too).

Network properties, showed a new adaptor (if i remember it was something like Deterministic Network Enhancer) or something similar.

Eventually gave up trying to fix it, un-installed the firewall client and the Web came back.

Sorry G but don't you work in tech support, did you ask the people you work with?
Did you try a different browser, firefox maybe?
