I've had the Gigabyte nForce4 Ultra motherboard since early December but there's no due date so I'm wondering, should I get the motherboard changed to the nForce 4 plain and get something to make up the monetary difference or just wait?

Its entirely up to you. Are you planning to go with SLI? If not I dont think its that important to get a nforce 4. I'm upgrading my PC to Socket 939 at the moment and I went with nforce 3. Why? Because I just got my XT PE and I dont feel like selling it just to get something similiar on PCI. I'll probably wait sometime between 6 months to 1 year to see how the SLI are performing. If all the bugs have been fixed, then I might consider the switch. For me, the performance on a single PCI with AGP is almost non-existence and therefore I dont feel the need to jump on the PCI wagon just yet :)

No, only the SLI boards can use two graphics cards. The ordinary nForce4 and the Ultra boards cannot.

I've just realised that Overclockers have one nForce 4 Ultra board coming in in the next few days. Wonder does that mean Gigabyte have theirs coming in...

Well then I don't see any point in waiting. At the moment, the only advantage I see in PCI-E is SLI. From everything I've read, we don't otherwise need PCI-E right now. Gcard companies are jumping on the PCI-E bandwagon of course, but since when are they ones to stop peeps from having to upgrade their comps?

AGP for the forseeable future for me.

All nForce 4 mobos are PCI-E anyway I think...

Ok then, if you want nForce4 you might as well wait for the best one or you'll get that upgrade itch again sooner :)

I recently bought an nForce3 cos I thought the nForce4 only really offered PCI-E and I'm not swayed by it. When SLI was announced I was tempted to get it, but it would have forced me to get a new SLI enabled PCI-E gcard = too much hassel :)

So I'm currently using nForce3 with my old AGP card. Each to their own.

[EDIT:] If I had known about the new Gigabite SLI dual-6600gt card I might have thought twice though. It's supposed to be cheaper than a single 6800gt while being more powerful than any other non-SLI cards. It still takes up 2 PCI-E slots though.
