I used to love (and still do) - Eagle's wings....think we did it for our communion and confirmation.....
City of God was another good one

My first primary school (Low Infants to 2nd class) was called St. Marys, so as a result - every May (ok it only happened 4 times) we'd get marched out to the yard to sing "May is the month of Mary, the month we all love so well, Mary is God's own mother..." (don't remember any more)...

In the second primary school (3rd - 6th class), in 5th class I got roped into the choir. In truth I fancied a girl in 6th class so made it my business to be in the choir so I'd see here more (can't believe I had such ideas at the age of ~11). Unfortunately I then had to be in the choir in 6th class, which was a chore. However I observed a classmate being expelled from the choir because he couldn't sing (how the hell did he get there in the first place) - so it sang flat for the rest of the year - unfortunately it was never noticed :(

I remember one, it began like a rap song, I used to think it was funny

    "In the bible I'm supposin',
that the people, they were chosen,
but they didn't know what to do...

...so they trundeled through the red sea,
    with the waters wide apart,
The chariots of Phareo thought they'd captured all the slaves,
but the water rushed upon them,
they were gobbeled by the waves.

    (chorus)
Were off to the the promised land,
the land of milk and honey,
slavery is over and the fields are full of clover
and the sky is warm and sunny,
we look to the sky at night to lead us on our journey,
god will give us company and will give us rest under a morning star"

A caterpillar grows up to be a butterfly, and I'm growing up to be me! vaguely rattles my memory banks, what about " the bakerwoman in her humble lodge, made a loaf of bead from god"(or something).i'll never forget that one we had a singing competition & one of the lads in my class sung it in a grating monotone !!! fantastic ! the cool kids were singing the beatles & spandau ballet songs the rest of us had to rely on the religious back catalogue.
there was also " life's like a telephone" sung by an elvis sound alike anyone remember that one??

"fish grow fins, to diggle and wiggle and swim,
birds grow beaks to peck and pick,
I'm growing up to be me.

My bodys growing up, a little every year
My body's growing out, with a smile from ear to ear
My body's growing, stretching, pulling, (something-ing)..."

    I forget the rest

man, just goes to show how much religous brainwashing went on in primary school, If I could remember this much about a useful subject I'd be a millionaire!

Jesus sat under the shade of a tree
and said to the children come sit by me
they sat at his feet and he touched them and smiled
and told them how much god loved each little child!

...He told them of God, The father above,
who cared for them with such kindness and love,
So come little children, let's all sing along,
because Jesus loves us all day long.

bless the food we eat today,
bless the hands that made the food
    bless us oh lord, Amennnnn'

    before scoffing easi singles sambos.........

    did anyone else sing:

there are hundreds of sparrows, thousands, millions
there's 2 a penny twice as many there should be
There are hundreds of sparrows, thousands, millions
And god loves everyone and god loves me.

I loved this song, just for the numbers. I also loved:

Jubilate, everybody, serve the lord in all his ways and
come before his presence singing enter now his courts with praise.

    or:

Shine jesus shine fill the land with your fathers glory
blaze spirit blaze set our hearts on fire
flow river flow flood the nations with grace and mercy
send out your word lord and let there be light

I was in a quaker school so we sang slightly different songs. i don't know how many people will recognise.

    Hehe.

All the religion books had the songs at the back of them and the teacher used to play a tape to go with it, yeah?

I remember the Shoe Shine song - no idea what it had to do with religion. And The Streets of London.

Another one was "come back to meeee, with all your heart, don't let fear keep us apart..... long have I waited for your com-ing home to me and liv-ing deeply our new life" or something..

I remember singing another song about Jesus but changing the words around. Mother was not happy with the result! :D Can't remember what it was now.
