    (From http://www.viceland.com/issues/v7n9/htdocs/extremepunishment.php )

    Egypt
Anyone caught taking or offering a bribe is sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labor and forced to pay a fine of no less than 1,000 Egyptian pounds and no more than the amount of the bribe.

    China
In Maoist theory, everybody should be treated equally. Anybody found guilty of corruption is killed instantly.

Other countries that view corruption as a capital offence include Vietnam and Indonesia.

I kinda agree with this, but not *quite* so harsh. In my opinion, we ought to do away with half the politicians in this country... bunch of gangsters. Thoughts, anyone?

Isn't it interesting that in all of the above countries corruption is rife.....

That Coca Cola story is very interesting, but be warned: it's quite long and you're better off downloading the Word document to save time online.

I would say that it quite possibly is true - at least the parts on the CIA using Coca Cola in post WW2 cold-war times. Frankly it doesn't bother me as I prefer a world where if I work harder I get paid more than the every body is equal thing (no incentive to push oneself in sucha a communist/socialist society).

I think when he mentioned corruption in those countries it was of the way the individual will virtually always be traded off for money or power. There are countless stories on this about China, the human rights abuses, etc., . Iraw, and how the US enforce sanctions so that what little money is left SHOULD force Saddam to prioritise food, etc., but instead he buys weapons.

The corruption in the west is different: the likes of the Coca Karma thing didn't really hurt anybody, and they guy merely didn't get paid a few thousand dollars for that one job. No harm done, I'm sure he had other jobs.

If they had offed him, then it's different. But when "corruption" here just means one person is only relatively less well off compared to a really well-off person, I am OK with that. Everyone gets vaccines, weekly money payments if no jobs, free education to a graduate level.

But corruption in places like China or Pakistan is all about walking all over people who have nothing anyway - like trying to be a Nuclear power (India, etc., even when the country is rife with poverty).

Look at the sentences for drug use in say Malaysia or Thailand. They are way way worse than the western world, where you will also probably get rehab, or government funded programs like methadone clinics, etc., .

For all the "corruption" here in ireland it really doesn't bother me about Haughey, whoever, O'Brien, because everyone has a pretty OK lifestyle anyway.

Mayhem has a point. If you think Egypt et al are clean because of their harsh penalties on bribery you are very much mistaken.

If you got arrested you could probably bribe your way to freedom smile.gif

    How did you know that?

    On a similar note, http://www.guerrillanews.com/cocakarma/

I'm sure some other people have come across this before, I think I saw a thread started by Hobbes on it.

Daneel- the drug penalties in Malaysia and Thailand(both of which I've visited a lot) are for drug smuggling and not drug use. So if you're carrying an amount consumate with that one would have for personal use, you'd get rehab, etc. If however, they discovered your car-boot was filled with heroin- it's a mandatory death sentence. To be perfectly honest, in spite of my stance against the death penalty, I have little sympathy for drug dealers who operate this close to the Golden Triangle.

Rehab clinics across SE Asia are filled to the brim with their victims. Even street dealers live a life of relative luxury in those parts- one can certainly understand these governments' decisions, even if they can't be condoned.

ANSWER: Young people of Ireland(in fact everyone) register to vote...

VOTE FF, PDs and FG out of government

You ask who else to vote for... try Sinn Féin or Socialist Alliance. These parties tend to saviourly punish any one involved with corruption...

To change it u got to want something else...
    The 3 methods(use all)
    MARCH/VOTE/RIOT
