I think they just might have a point (see below).

How about raising the general school / education leaving age to 18 though? There are still too many 15/16/17 year olds getting incomplete educations.

Voting age case suffers setback
By JIM MACDONALD -- The Canadian Press

EDMONTON (CP) -- Two Edmonton teens promise to carry on their fight to lower Alberta's voting age from 18 to 16 after suffering a legal setback. Eryn Fitzgerald, 15, and Christine Jairamsingh, 16, were challenging Alberta's Local Authorities Election Act. They contend the current voting age is unconstitutional and violates the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. ...

Fitzgerald, said 16 and 17 year olds should have the right to vote because politicians routinely make decisions about issues that affect them. ...

She also pointed to the large number of young teens being tried as adults as a further reason to lower the voting age.

"Being tried as an adult when you're like 14 and things like that. Those issues so pushed us more to think about how youth are being treated like adults more often." ...

I don't agree with School leaving ages being raised to 18.... I mean we NEED unskilled labour. Some ppl just plain HATE school and education and the institutiosn... Leaving Certs r not essential they just help...

If there was more unskilled labourers on buliding sites this would help ease house prices for example.....

As for 14 and 16 year olds being tried as adults I am strongly against this practice... They ARE NOT ADULTS plain and simple. Therefore they should not be aloud to vote....

In Austria Jorg Hider used the large number of registered young voters to his advantage... He tempted the youths with free socials, discos and internet cafés... They rewarded him with enough votes to form a coalition government....
I don't believe that SF and FF won't do the same...

Most 16 year olds are sheep.... They are just looking for their shepard

P.S. - I am 18 not 40

I'd basically agree with Chaos-Engine.
18 is a good age to set for voting entitlement, for one example, it is commonly the age people can volunteer for the army. This being a watershed moment in a person's life.
