stopped there on an interailing trip once. very quaint and has real tourist appeal. not what i'd call a drinking city though there are plenty of places to get very drunk. The selection of beer is amazing.

Also I found the people to be very friendly.

Perfect city for a weekend if Amsterdam isn't your thing.

I spent some time there a few years ago - on business but hung around for a few days.
Restaurants and pubs around the main square are all pretty good as far as I recall and there is a vast amount of local beer to sample. I went on a boat tour of the canal which was interesting and stopped off at one of the local breweries.
Also climbing the clock tower in the square is fun.
Order a regional lager by telling your waiter you are looking for a local blonde - its a real thigh slapper! If I continue to recall correctly Old Henry, Oute Harry or whatever in the local language is worth a glass or two.
Of course a lot these places, especially outdoor bars in the square are better in summer.

PS - seemingly also famous for lace production, but this is only interesting for any obligatory pressies

yeah its a nice place, enjoy a canal tour and the other thing brugge is famour for is chocolate! so many chocolate shops and all good! i do suggest you look around as the differances in prices is massive! the restraunts are good, more expensive in the main square as one can imagine, also there is a class Tintin shop! with everything tintin related, as herbe was from brugge! enjoy it! and eat lots of choc and enjoy a local blonde or two! ;)

Was there years ago,, great place - Two great places to go drinking - Take a tour of the Brewery Straffe Hendrix - have a few pints afterwards.

There's a pub down one of the sidestreets (I think down one of the streets across from the Tintin shop) called pub Bertie (or something similar) that has hundreds of different beers. When I was there was full of Aussies, Irish, Americans, English good laugh, the owner (a woman) will recommend what beers to drink..... Enjoy don't eat too many mussells and go on the piss - not a good combination!!
