I'm looking into setting up my own home photo studio for portraits. However I don't know much about lighting so hardly know where to start when identifying which lighting setup to go for. I have been browsing the Bowens and Jessops websites which both have a number of packages.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I shoot digital with a canon 300D.

First things first, before you dive into buying a load of gear the best advice I could give is to get into a course thats hands on. There is so much choice in terms of gear to buy that you can spend a fortune and not have what you want.

I did a course (a long time ago with Dave) and found it excellent http://www.iop.ie/courses/studio_beginners.htm

Nice bump on a 6 year old thread....

As Boarder fox says, you are better to do a course or read up on studio lighting before you go and splash the cash. Light is light, its knowing how to use it what will make all the difference.

Cheers Man, I'm defiantly going to do that course, its exactly what I've been trying to find. I'm actually over the moon with that link. Thanks a million for the advice.
