Would you like to share more information?

I'd like to know, how you are using the pc to connect to the net - ie. Broadband etc?

How is the laptop connected - i.e. physically via lan cable, and hub/switch or crossover cable or wireless?

When you enable ICS on a machine it expects to have two physical network cards, one is connected to the internet and the other to the local network. I'm assuming it's XP Pro! ICS also sets up a small dhcp scope and issues addresses to clients. So you could try ensuring that these services are running. Also, make sure that if you have personal firewalls running that they are correctly configured.

Dont' forget the basics.... can you ping the pc from the laptop?

    Cheers
    Howard

How are you connecting your laptop to your PC. I am not sure but I think you may need two network cards in your PC. One to connect to the internet and one to conect to the laptop or to another network

pc connects using dial up! pc and laptop are connectd through a network switch. yes using xp pro sp2! pc wont ping each other but they can see each other in network neighbour hood and i can access them from one another. using trend micro internet security as well"!

No. - that dude finds it much easier to bump than to search
and it's not the first time he's bumped within an hour

    search through the forums ,
can't network two windows machines happens EVERY week ...

odds on it's a firewall ( and ICS is flaky at the best of times )

If you can't ping between the machines you need to go right back to the basics.

Make sure icmp is enabled and allowed in your firewall settings. Solve this issue and you'll probably find ics will work.

    Cheers

No, there's no rule, but it's usually frowned upon. You've been using these forums for a while, not too many bumps going on.

If you can't ping, you need to go back to basics. My guess: It's probably your firewall.

you bumped before you put up more info..

This is not the windows forum 10 posts in and still don't know what OS you are you using ? :D
RANT most versions of windows have version specific network settings /RANT

Are you using TCPIP or if an older version NetBIOS or IPX for the hell of it (the last two aren't routable to the internet so are immune to lots of nasties)
Are both on the same workgoup with a same named user with same password on both machines - if not then do not pass GO
    Have you shared folders
can each machine see it'self in network neighbourhood - again that's a Go to Jail

    - nothing here yet that hasn't been posted every fortnight or answered on the stickies , and most of the other posters posted up what had tried / error message / configs
