PC To TV Problem

    Ahoy,

I'm using a TV as a second display to watch movies etc..
My problem is that the display on the TV appears in black and white instead of colour, and a large amount of filddeling with the settings has been fruitless. The TV displays everything else in colour, except the comp.

My hardware is a BFG nVidia 6600GT, and the software is Nview. I'm using an S-Video to Scart cable to connect the two.

    Anyone any ideas?
    Cheers.

My Panasonic TV has two AV modes one for S-video and one for the Video Composite. Check that you have the right output signal selected on the PC and that your tv can display that signal

Jim - do a quick search on this forum. I had the exact same problem, it's to do with the construction of the s-video to SCART cable. No amount of fiddling is going to fix it. I have a cable on the way from some crowd in the US who claim it will give a colour picture, I'll let you know when I get it how good it is.

One way around it I found by accident is to cycle through all the inputs on the TV (usually a button on the remote that allows this). Once you get back to the computer picture it will be in a kinda colour(tm) - it is colour, but a little off. The only problem with this is that if you change resolution on the computer (for example when you fire up a game) it will revert back to black and white. To fix it, repeat the above.

My TV is a Phillips, about three years old, btw.

To the TV there is difference between a normal video signal and a S-video signal. My panasonic ya can say toggle from AV3 to AV3S, S for S-Video

i also have this proble..as well as the wrong screen res..despite spending £25 on a cable which now appears useless to me..ive now found an s-video to s-video cable which i am now going to try from my vivo box...maybe..jusy maybe

It the GFX drivers that will determine the resolution. Use Extend main onto TV (Catalyst 4.7) Ya can force 800x600 for the TV and keep you monitor res

Is there a composite option on the card at all? Much the same happened to me when attempting to connect an oldish VCR to a video capture card, using svhs it was B&W, but I switched to the composite lead and it worked fine.

have you set youf gfx card to output a pal signal?

If you are getting the signal through then just make sure you are in PAL (I) and as the others have said, check the various AV functions on your TV - ie try pressing the AV button several times to cycle through the different channels, or press channel up/down when in AV mode.

There are normally several different channels there, with one for S-Video. Also, if you have two scart ports in the back of the TV, try changing the port. On my Panasonic at home, the bottom scart gives only B&W no matter what, but the top scart gives a perfectly clear picture on AV-S.

I have used tv-out on several computers/laptops and TVs, and have come across that black and white/fuzzy colour picture problem many times. All it takes, is to change the channel/scart and make sure the output is set to PAL. Once you are getting the signal its a pretty good indication that everything is working reasonably well.

    Ok.

I've tried changing the output from Auto Detect to SVideo to Compositite but none of that works. Also made sure it w set at PAL I but that didn't work either.

    Any other suggestions?

    Problem sorted.

Ordered a cable from these guys for $23 including shipping and it worked just fine on my TV.

    FIFA 2005 never looked better.smile.gif

Yes, but according to posters on my previous thread, they don't seem to work that well.

The cable I bought seemed to be the only one that specifically stated it fixed the "problem".

Had the same problem a while ago, got a s-video to scart cable from Maplins and it just came out b&w on the tv. got the same cable as tom dunne from svideo.com and it has worked perfectly on any tv that I plugged it into.

Looking at getting me one of these to put video/audio over cat5.
