This is not confirmed yet so don't flame me if it doesn't happen.

Snow Patrol/Damien Rice/The Frames + more are expected to be playing the Point on Saturday 22nd January. The gig is in aid of the victims of the Tsunami. Not sure when the tickets are due to go on sale or how much they'll cost.

Sounds like a great lineup. Tickets will be next to impossible to get though!

@Papa Smut: I know a few people who are involved in the Irish music scene.

@Sleepy: Just keep an eye out for when tickets go on sale and you should be alright. The Point is a pretty large venue.

Didn't know that it was on TV3 News yesterday, I just heard it from a friend last saturday. The lineup's pretty good IMHO, I guess it depends what music your into.

Damien Rice is playing Temple Bar Music Centre tomorrow night too and ALL proceeds go to the Asia Appeal. The gig was only announced on the 1st and sold out dead quick. Didnt manage to get a ticket unfortunetly. The one in the point sounds good too though.

Yeah I was going to go to that gig but when I heard that Damien was playin' the point along with The Frames and Snow Patrol I decided that I'd go to the point instead. Saturday is an easier day for me, although the Temple bar gig would be a bit more intimate.

Latest news is that the gig might be delayed by a few days, but it is still going ahead.

It's for a great cause so I will try my best to pick up tickets, however I'm not overly impressed with the lineup. Snow Patrol have an excellent album in Final Straw, but they are absolutely appalling live. I saw them in the RDS Main Hall on the 28th December last and I was left bitterly disappointed. Glen Hansard is an annoying prick but I suppose the Frames aren't the worst. I'm a big Damien Rice fan and I'm heading to the TBMC to see him tonight. Looking forward to that!

Snow Patrol: They we're excellent at oxegen and I'm a great fan of their new album and some of the older stuff as well.

The Frames: Yeah, he is annoying but he's still great live and he adds a lot of energy to the show. I think the new Frames album is excellent and I'd love to see some of the songs performed live.

Damien Rice: I've always been a fan of Damo, I think he might fall under the same annoying prick category that Glen does but most talented musicians are a bit like that, might get to here some stuff from the album he's currently recording as well, I'd pay the admission fee (It's for charity anyway) just to see "The Professor" and "Women Like a man" live.

I'm pretty impressed with the line-up so far, but more could be added but equally more might cancel.

By the way Damien's old band Bell x1 are playing another charity gig in Vicar Streeet on 1st February...

The Vicar Street gigs are interesting enough there. An odd mix of comedians / bands, but I'm sure it will work. I don't think I would be too pushed to see David Kitt but Bell X1 would be good.

Any idea yet when the tickets will go on sale for the Point gig?

Bell x1 are an amazing band, I saw them at the Opera house in Cork... Great gig.
As for a date for ticket sales... I'm really not sure, I heard monday 9th, but it sounds like the organisers have hit all sorts of delays. The gig and the acts aren't even confirmed yet so I think it would be lucky if tickets went on sale at all next week.

Yeah they're playing Cardiff alright story on NME

TSUNAMI BENEFIT GIG - FIRST NAMES ANNOUNCED

MANIC STREET PREACHERS, SNOW PATROL, BADLY DRAWN BOY and EMBRACE have been confirmed to play the forthcoming LIVE-AID style concert in CARDIFF for the ASIAN tsunami disaster appeal.

The group will line up alongside Eric Clapton, Feeder and Lemar for the January 22 gig at the Millennium Stadium.

Organisers hope to raise to raise £1 million for victims of the disaster, which hit on Boxing Day (December 26).

Over 40,000 tickets, which range from £15 to £30, have been snapped up so far, with 20,000 sold within the first hour of going on sale.

The stadium is expected to hold up to 65,000 on the day of the event.

Stadium manager Paul Sergeant told BBC News: "We had a fantastic response over the weekend, with the ticket sales reaching 45,000 by tea time on Sunday - it's an incredible achievement," he said.

"We are over the moon, we have a good line-up, but this shows that people want to come together to pay their respects and mark the tsunami disaster."

The gig is expected to start at 2pm and finish at around 10.30pm.

I'd say at this stage the Irish gig will be pushed back anyway, but Snow Patrol are just after finishing their tour for Final Straw so they probably wouldn't be on for another gig here in Ireland so soon after the Cardiff one.

Another Tsumami Benefit Gig - The Frames and Mary Geary are playing the Village on 16th Jan (billed as The Clereys). Tickets go on sale from the WAV box office today I believe.
