    Hi,
Someone has decided to start pranking me, I was told before that if you input a certain number into your phone, it sends a request for their number to be displayed. Anyone know about this?
    Thanks!

As far as i know, if the pranker has entered #31# before your number they cant be traced, this may have changed, im not sure about landline pranks, eircom might be able to help out there??

keep answering it, every time you answer it it is costing them money. that is what i usually do , it stops once they run out of credit.

    how does this work?

I think the number your looking for is 141 dialled before the number. get an answering machine, pranksters hate leaving their voice on tape. Also eircon have the ability to trace any call, if necessary. They wont divulge the blocked number to you but will assist the Gardai in prosecuting the offender.

i'd imagine *#30#01 2223333 hides your infomation from the reciever

    #31#086123456 puts private number on.

also you can go into your settings and change it there.

i heard that if you already have the persons number in your phone book, put #31# before it and his number will show up. Dont know if this works, but it involves you needing the persons number.

Yes I partly guess tha,t but was the question asked by cormie...

Is it possible to retrieve a blocked number. These answers here are only telling how to turn on and off you number, which can be done from the settings menu on the phone anyway.

He has no control over the person calling his phone. All he sees on his phone is private number and he is trying to find out if it is possible for him to find out the number calling.

As Pataman pointed out Eircon probably has a record if its a landline, likewise I would assume the 3 mobile operators have the same sort of access.

these kind of people really piss me off. i used to get a lot of calls like this. what i did was to divert my calls to the local garda station for half an hour.

    hey presto they stopped

you know what, even if you did that for just 5 mins its a classic idea! Never would have thought of that although I'd imagine the Gards might not be happy!

You don't say if they're malicious or not. If they actually are bad you can report it, get them logged and then AFAIK your entitled to a new mobile number for free from your operator.

Well, perhaps entitled isn't the right word but you can be offered one.

getting a new number is easy. 10 euro, even comes with free credit. Hassle of moving number is the issue. Its easier for the messer to buy a load of sims and spam then it is for a person to change phone.

I haven't looked into the hacking side of it, but I do know that if you put #30# infront of a number or you have "Own number sending" turned off, or if you are using an exdirectory phone, your number is still sent to the receiver but the command tells the receivers phone not to display it. It can be turned off somehow, cuz I guy I know managed to do, and could see my number even though its exdirectory.

Well find out from your guy how he did this. If you read through the hacking site it says that it can't be done. No one there's seems to be able to do it but your guy!
