We all love the beautiful game, and I'd say a fair amount of us have played in our time, but what position do you play in?

Give us examples of players currently who play in similar positions.

    I'll start with me.

I like to be a central midfielder, pulling strings and setting up attacks, spotting the decent pass to play, and breaking up opposition attacks. Bit like Roy Keane in his heyday.

Goalkeeper. You can't beat coming out and clattering your opponents and getting away with it! :D

Schmeichel was my idol when I was younger so if there's a player I'd like to emulate it would probably be him.

    I was a goalkeeper.
Peter Schmeichel like in my tirades to my defenders and my expert one-on-one play.
Dimitri Karin like for my kick-outs.
And better than any of the current crop of premiership keepers for my outstanding shot stopping capabilities.
And then there was the cheeky f***ers who'd try to lob me. Ok I was/am small but give it a rest ffs. Foiled these attempts most of the time.

i was a central midfielder in my day, number 8 was my number. never one for forward runs though, more of a passer. cant think of who you would compare my style to. maybe davids/alonso.

Tough tackling full-back(either side) , Dennis Irwin .

I was a left full up until about 2 years ago. The knee's have crippled already at such a young age. :(

Left Full. Fancy myself as a bit of a Roberto Carlos (cough Ian harte), Hit free kicks and corners wit my thrusty left peg. Am fairly sucessful at them too.

Have played nearly every position bar central midfield.
Favourite position is Inside right .
Have been out of action for the last 2 months though.
Pulled a muscle in my back playing a match and also have knee troubles too.

I played in a few positions, started on the right wing. Didn't have that inch perfect cross so I was thrown up front in one game and did well. Ended up playing centre field/up front. Wasn't really a tough tackling midfielder, just getting forward and setting up play mostly.

Striker like Sparkey there to kick defenders.

Left Back (on the bench) :D

I am multi talented, can use both feet well, though lacking slightly in pace :D Right/Left full or defensive midfield.

Started out in midfield, then moved to target man aka Hughesie, using my arse to hold the ball up in other words!!! ;)

Last season due to injury of keepers was asked to go in goal, went on 12 match unbeaten run, conceeded 6 in 12 matches so was not perfect.
This year god knows! Might stay there

Center half/sweeper not the tallest but good on the ground and well able to set up an attack with a long pass id sit off my other center half and spread the ball around all day,it worked very well for our junior side last year im out now with a cruciate ligament injury!
Id like to compare myself to a young and fit maldini in my dreams :D

    Tough-tackling centre mid.

Has this thread made anyone else think of the possibility of a boards soccer team? Imagine it, we could have our names and number of posts on our jerseys...

HAHA too right man!.......I was a goalkeeper for years!was very good on one on one's as i used to just flying out and dive at the ball at their feet!Allways took the striker clean out of it aswell but hey, im allowed do that!

Sucked though when you had nothing to do for ages in the freezing cold!

I'm a winger when I'm fit, a full back when I'm not fit.

For the last 2 years I've been a full back :)

I'm a very good passer and tackler, not so good with the tricks/fast feet.

    goalkeeper

a bit like a jorge campos small and agile

Started my underage days playing in goal, was (AND STILL AM) fairly good in the smaller goals, can get down well and good one-on-one but fullsized never suited me.

Moved to left back (was left footed and strong made sence) and played there between u13 and u17 during an u17 game I was moved to centre mid because the manager went mad and decided "an attacking 3-5-2 would confuse them, I played very well sitting deep and supprting the midfeidl and defence, very much a Pirlo style player in that posistion, took most free kick, have an eye for long passes/shots.
u18 I played about half a season as "support striker" not the tallest and not the fastest but im handy with the ball on the deck and I have an eye for goal, in my illustrous time in the game I've played everywhere ecept right back and right mid and have won about 9 league titles with St. Peters Youngs, gotten to the semi finals for the FAI youth cup 3 times and once was on the ADSL (Athlone and district Schoolboy league) kennedy Cup team.

because of the varity of posistions i have played and the style of play i'd say im a mixture of the versitiality of SWP, the passing and style of Andrea Pirlo, the strike capability of Marco Simone and the pace (or lack of) of gary palister.

The crowning achievement of any young footballer . Was on the North Tipp side myself some time ago .

I had the nickname 'Swiss' when i played football, as in swiss army knife as I literally played in every position except centre back... wasn't tall enough :p

I had number 10 though wherever i played. I usually played 'in the hole' ala Stevie Gerrard, Cantona, Bergkamp type of role/player. Obviously not as good as the above mentioned..

I took the corners, free kicks and penalties...

I started on the wings as I could use both feet back then, so I did a lot of switching between wings during games.
After that I played up-front, then in central midfield. I also played in goals for a season at u14 i think it was... those were the days.

Haven't played senior soccer in about 3 years.. must get back into it and see if i can still fit 'in the hole' :)
