The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will
be the official language of the EU rather than German, which was the other
possibility. As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty's government conceded that
English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5-year phase-in
plan that would be known as "EuroEnglish."
In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c".
Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy.
The hard "c" will be dropped in favor of the "k:"
This should klear up konfusion and keyboards kan have one less letter.
There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the
troublesome "ph" will be replased with the "f."
This will make words like "fotograf" 20% shorter.
In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to
reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.
Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters, which have
always ben a deterent to akurate speling.
Also, al wil agre that the horible mess of the silent "e"s in the language
is disgraseful and they should go away.
By the 4th year, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th"
    with "z" and "w" with "v".
During ze fifz year, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining
"ou" and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters.
After zis fifz yer, ve vil hav a reli sensibl riten styl.
Zer vil be no mor trubls or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu
    understand ech ozer.
ZE DREM VIL FINALI KUM TRU!!!!!
And zen ve vil take over ze vorld!!!!

Oh please can we forget Volapuk? ... please???

Why should there be one language for all??? That's mad, Ted! As a primary/first language though, I'd say there's very little other choice besides English.

    I'm assuming he's talking upper- and lower-case for each of the 26 x 2 - = 52.

Americans speak American English. I can assure you it is not British English (or international English for that matter).

    The sites you visit.

Actually English is not the most spoken language of the world. Top three are.

    1. Chinese (Mandarin).
    2. Spanish.
    3. English.

They are based on country of origin though so adjusted I'd say English would be below French.

English isn't really classed as a business language either.

Well some are but then it would be easy enough to create a language version if someone wanted to spend the time. Try debugging a program written by a german guy who can't speak English and you can't speak German and see how easy it is. smile.gif

    >(other stuff)

Try go reading up on unicode.

Mandarin and Spanish are spoken as a first language by more people than English, but in terms of people who actually speak a language (not necessarily as their first language), English is way out on top.

Ahh lads, if the Brits get this worked up about changing to euros, how do you think they'll react to changing the queen's english?

If we were to speak one language it should be Latin, but I don't want to be united with Europe.

That's the most utterly ridiculous suggestion I've seen. Latin, as a spoken language IS dead.
