I bought one myself recently, best money I've ever spent! I haven't used it to record much yet but it can record 24bit with is excellent. If you want to plug your guitar into it, you'll probably need to a preamp with a line out, and then connect the lineout to the card to get the right levels. Same goes for a mic. Keyboards usually have there own line out so that should be fine. You shouldn't need a bay panel, everything is controlled through the software. I've only recorded from a mic, and it it came out perfect, even though it was only a crappy PC mic that cost €10!
The quality out of that thing is amazing, I'd recommend it to anyone!

PCMCIA is fine but you can only use it on laptops. If you get a USB device you can use it with other PC's.

Theres also an USB Audigy2 NX but it requires external power which puts me off it.

I have a MP3+ (no external power req) which I got to give me optical in/out and better stereo from my laptop. But its not great for recording.

Then theres now a new USB Creative Live card which is USB which is worth looking at. No external power and decent quality for recording. I'm looking for a good deal on that now myself.

I'm not sure if any of these have MIDI ports though.

Yeah the Audigy2 PCMCIA doesn't have a midi port, but you can get midi to usb cables to solve that problem, seen as the Audigy2 does support midi. Thats the mainly why I bought the PCMCIA one, seen as it doesn't need an external power supply. It can be used with a PC too, with a PCMCIA to PCI card, which can be found on eBay for a few quid.
