I just bought a dvd burner!its an emperex dvd-+r/rw external dvd burner 8x

My problem is this...I downloaded a film there last week!its an mpeg and it was 789mbs...so i decided to try out my burner using the nero software..everything went fine apart from it took 4hrs 32mins to burn the film onto a blank dvd-r.Now i may be wrong but i taut it may take half and hour not 4and a half hrs...I have a brand new dell pc 2 so its not the pc..

Do they usually take that long...it was transcoding for most of it..

It would depend on the drive and the PC. But encoding DVD's takes hours.

Have heard of people just leaving it overnight. Having loads of RAM will also serve you well.

Converting from one video format to another always takes time. The more mhz you have the better in that scenario. The actual burning process should take about 10 minutes if you do it at 8x, or 20 mins if you burn at 4x.

It was only 789mb. Could you not have edited it a little bit and put it on a CD instead

Yeah I usually leave dvds overnight to burn. And definately use VCD for movies < 800MB. It's quicker and cheaper.

It depends on your pc, but it takes me roughly 2/3 hrs to transcode and burn a dvd from 700mb Xvid movies i've made. i've amd3400 and gig of ram. It also depends on what program your using,
what the program is trying to do, etc etc...

If you just simply wanted to burn the movie(encoded as something else) onto DVD then it shouldnt take any more than 20 minutes, depending on the dvd drive..

Actually, by any chance was it an SVCD or VCD? Cos if it was, just load up nero, and choose "SVCD" as the cd type you want to create, and you won't have to reconvert, and you'll fit 800mb of data on the disc....

So, this google thing? Is this new? I've never heard of google before? I hear its some kind of a search engine.

Could this be the answer to life, the universe and everything :p (look at that link!).

EDIT: Also look up "french military victories" and click on "i'm feeling lucky", and "weapons of mass destruction", for some truly hilarious results :P
