Saying Sorry

The following is the text of a letter published in today's Irish Times:

Sir,

The Catholic Church is the spotless spouse of Christ. To suggest or say it 'sinned' is blasphemy, no matter if it is the phenomonologist Karol Wojtyla, otherwise known as Pope John Paul II, that says it. Consequently, the Church does not need to have it's Vicar of Christ tour the earth aplogising to heretics, schismatics, nor Arians for anything.

I suggest he would be better employed staying in Rome and trying to halt the demise of the Catholic faith and its priesthood, which has plummeted since that perverted council Vatican II and which has accelerated during his reign.

Yours,

Redmond O'Hanlon,
Braemor Road,
Churchtown,
Dublin 14.

I've emailed my reply to the Irish Times already, but the mind bending ignorance that this man displays beggars belief, I think.

Perhaps if the likes of him faced to up to the multitude of wrongs perpetrated by his precious Church, it wouldn't be in the state it's in now.

There again, if he is an indicator of it's extreme supporters, long may that decline continue.

I'm sure he gave I.T. to publish his full address, not sure if he wanted it here though.

He's right though, I think the Vatican should become a nuclear power and bomb all the heretics back to the dark ages.

People like that man really get on my nerves. His utterly stuck up, inconsiderate "we are right, you are wrong" attitude makes me sick.

I was "raised" as a Catholic but I don't believe in religion at all. When I see things like this I feel glad about having no religion.

If people like him had their way, we'd all be eating fish on Fridays, attending masses (in Latin!) on Sundays, and basically living in the Ireland of the 1950's.

While I agree wholeheartedly that the man is an ignorant moron (is it possibly a joke?) I do have to point something out to Stephen - eating fish on Friday and attending Mass (be it in Latin or not) on Sunday hardly puts us back to the 1950's.

I presume you meant that if he had his way then the country would go back to the times when the Parish Priest was the most influential man in the town and everyone obeyed the church no matter what.

Yes smile.gif The comments about eating fish on Fridays and so on were just examples.

Another thing i disagree with is the way the Catholic church is so integrated with the majority of Irish primary schools. I think its wrong. Religion should be taught at home, not in school. When I was in primary school there were no non-Catholic kids in the class, but I can imagine how it would be for one. Being forced to attend these "class masses" and sitting through school "Holy communion" and confirmation ceremonies and the like.

I Don't know why I went off on that tangent there, it just came to mind after reading the line about the all powerful, all feared, all respected parish priest of the 50's smile.gif

Hey....its religion. Most beliefs would never admit to wrong doing. I hope the Popes tack will pay divident and cool things between religions.

That Times guy is a nut. His stance is voided by the second Vatican council, which was along time ago. If he is so religious how does he not know this? Blind faith takes on a new meaning.

Varg Vikernes is...

Well...

Let me put it this way...

Anyone remember the church burings in olso back in '93?
Also remember Euronamous, the guitarist from Mayhem was murdered?

I say, we break him out, and let him loose on Braemor Road,
Churchtown,
Dublin 14

Of course, I only mention this as a joke, but you can see the relevance.
It would have been funny if you knew who he was though...

You know, I think I might look up a bit more about him... Might make an intresting debate.

Ok, right now I'm finding out some disturbing things...

The main one is that he only got 21 years in prison...

With parole, the guy could be out tomorrow for all I know...

The maximum sentence in Norway is 21 years regardless of the crime.

Hobbes - the Irish Times is read by a few more people daily than these boards - they insist you provide your address for verification, I'm sure that he wouldn't mind standing up for his ridiculous views.

The difference is that he'll actually serve 21 years - not like when you get 'life' here and then get out after ten years or whatever.

Changing call sign to SIERRA PAPA OSCAR OSCAR FOXTROT.

I think this guy is just being picky. Technically 'the Church' is the spiritual collection of Christians / Catholics and 'can do no wrong'.

The Pope was apologising for actions done by Church organisations or in the name of the Church. I think he is right, technically because those wrong doers are still part of the Church (unless excommunicated), and more importantly morally, as a bit of humility and sincerity will go a long way.

If this guy is worried about priesthood numbers falling, the last thing he needs in JPII in Rome tackling the issue. Being the arch conservitive he is, John Paul is never going to even broach the subject of homosexuality, women and celebicy in the priesthood, the three biggest reasons why there aren't more priests.
But judging by the tone of Mr. O'Hanlons letter, I don't think he'd agree with me.

Emmm... Pope JPII already did address this, a few times. He just said what the RCC has always said - no gays, no gals, no sex.
Pretty explicit stand there.

Actually, intersetingly enough, it doesn't say anywhere in cathochism (chatholic 'rule book') about celibacy for priests, it is however adamant on the no-women thing.

Ok... As I was looking up about Varg on the internet, I notice a few pictures of him that very closely resember my friend Connor...
I mention this to him today...

AND HE IS ****ING RELATED TO HIM!!!
They have the same grandmother.

Varg didn't axe euronymous, he stabbed him. And it was actualy in self defense, as I have learned.
But he never recieved a fair trial, because they could never prove he burned any churches at all... So the courts went down extremely hard on him.

And every member of Emperor have burned a chruch at one time...

I heard he axed euronymous to death, is that true?
Also sammoth from emperor burnt down a church.
(nice bit of trivia ;-) )

Well I believe in Catholic teachings strongly, but I'm not too sure on it's say regarding the Pope, but isn't he supposed to be appointed by God himself, and therefore is his holy messenger, and whatever he says, goes? I think the Pope is cool, cos he's like 80, been shot and is still going. Fair play. The Pope's statements regarding the Catholic Church should be taken to heart, I says.
