was flicking through the channels last night and there was some yearly tv wrap up show on channel 4, 100 tv moments of the year or something. anyway 1 of these segments was this kid (im presuming it was on the level and not a midget or something) who they claimed was 6. he had a full on bodybuilders physique, i mean seriously like a competitive bodybuilders tone etc. did anyone else see this? is it true and if so, how so? surely ya cant go lifting huge weights (safely) at that age.

That was a documentary called 'The World's Strongest Boy'

It's repeated on Monday at 10pm on The Discovery Channel, for anyone who's interested.

Heard about the story a while ago so I assume its the same child. Basically its a medical condition which doesnt inhibit the growth of muscle or some such. Google would answer it Im sure.

The kids name is Richard Sandrak. http://www.richardsandrak.com/

His parents are more than a little obsessive and it's worrying to see how much pressure they put on him but he appears to be balanced enough and a nice kid.

As with everything his body mass can't all be attributed to his medical condition. It still takes hours of training and conditioning.

I cannot believe that you are discussing the body mass of a six year old. Would have the parents locked up. There is no way to tell what the toll will be on the child.

    How old is Richard?
Richard is 12 1/2 years old.

IMHO that is still way too young. Should be at least 14 in my book. Would settle for just flogging parents.

i think we're talking about two different people?

the kid shown on the tv show on c4 was 6 years old with with dark hair quite a small boy , showned him in body building contests all oiled up, the other kid was deemed the world strongest boy and it was about his medical condition...

i thought you weren't supposed to weight lift when under 18 etc or some sort

I think the idea that you shouldn't lift weights until you're adult is to do with injury. Kids are less likely to have the discipline to use correct technique and not hurt themselves. If a kid does hurt themselves badly enough it might effect their growth (cause one leg to be longer than the other etc).
prepubescent weightlifting is distasteful to me, and would not be worth it really, partly because children do not have the hormones to grow large muscles anyway, but also why bother (what is the point like). The motivations for adults in becoming physically strong are not things children should be concerned with. Also if you are strong enough to hurt someone you want to be responsible too, and kids aren't.
14 is considered a good age to start training, although lighter weights are recommended to reduce the risk of injury. Training at this age should be extremely effective because of all the hormones in the body.

He's 12 years old and I simply stated his medical condition doesn't attritube 100% to his current body condition. I don't see the problem.

What is the source of your apparent dismay?

I think I'm with pwd on this. Much too damn young to get into that. Whether the child is 6 or 12 . Judging by the pictures posted there is a touch of exploitation going on here.

Yesh - 6 is way to young. What the hell are his parents thiinking? 12 - now thats ok - that boy is set up for the girl scene anyway

I used to lift light weights when I was young, as did one or two of my friends. Let's face it kids are immensely shallow and a little bit of muscle goes a long way to improving juvenile social standing. Even in youth clubs, it helps you get picked by the adults as the "leader" for things.

The weight lifting may even be necessary for the above mentioned child as he's not a normal child. The normal bodily state of affairs is used muscle gets grown, unused muscle tends to shrink. Since his muscle is constantly growing anyway, lack of use may cause problems.

That 12 year is sick - nevermind the 6 year old!

Anold Swarzenegger was probably much bigger than him at 12.

its all the same kid. watched the docu last night. ****ing scary stuff. the kid was doing crunches before he could walk, basic gist of the story was this.

the kid is originally from ukraine, parents moved to america when he was 2 (by which time he had a 6 pack). his da was a martial arts/weightlifter guy who trained him night and day and his mam into her workouts too. when he was 6 his da brought him into golds gym and showed him off to the owner, who promoted him for a while. he then copped on that the dad was (probably)feeding the kid steroids and distanced himself. the dad got put away for beating up the mam and the kid stopped training for a while. the docu picked up now, hes 12 and back in training for some film contract hes trying to get. hes not half as ripped as he was when he was 6 but still looks more like a midget bodybuilder than a 12 year old.

at one point it showed the mam "training" his little sister, the kid was in obvious pain doing the exercises, but the mam kept pushing her. seemed to be child abuse plain and simple.
