Kind of funny. The new X-Files spin off "Lone Gunman" is out. More of a comedy then serious.

Last sundays episode was thier search for a special car created in the 70's that runs on water. (won't ruin the episode)

Now just on TV some car company says they have invented a car that runs on water. Only cost 4 milllion to make, but they reckon it would be up and running in 10-15 years.

Whats scary is the implications this has on society if it was to exist.

Btw, I remember as a kid being told that oil would run out in 2020 or 2030. Is that still correct?

Are you sure it isn't Hydrogen? There is a big difference.

Runs on H + O and excretes H2O. So yea Hydrogen car, but makes Water.

The Lone Gunman car ran on water

oil wont run out that soon.
they'll just start tapping untouched continents like africa and south america.
the price will soar extremely high though until new resources are found elsewhere.

anyway they've had cars that run on hydrogen for a long time at this stage.. i can recall watching one on tv when i was 14, a good 7 years ago now, but there were several things which meant it never got off the ground, due to the cost of hydrogen compared to petrol and the safety issues with using it.

just got a nice link there:

anyone read the Ben Elton Book called "Gridlock" Again the car could run on H . But the car and oil industry were not too happy at all ....

Its very ez to make a car run on hydrogen. Its making hydrogen and storing is the tough part (and dangerous as some1 said).

There are cars that can run on vegetable oil, solar cars, hybrids, hydrogen cars, and yes eventually water cars.
A synthetic oil can be made, although isnt quite as good as the real stuff.

The thing is, billions of dollars are made each year from combustion engines. It isnt in the interests of car companies to have these alternative sources. Same for oil companies. These two groups have enough 'pull' to slow down any advancements. They already have several times, buying out companies that develop these alternative modes of travel or fuel.
Just watch discovery channel. An proggy about this kind of thing is on at least once a week.

I remember hearing about this guy who drew up working designs for a car that ran on water but he met an untimely end and there were rumors that he was bumped off by a leading oil company in the states ( who I won't name for fear of my life!)

By the by, hasn't Bush declared an intrest in some artic reserve in Alaska Because there's oil there and it would reduce american dependancy on arab importing.

I dunno about that, but America is definately stockpiling almost all of its texas oil. And any other domestic oil of course, but afaik most of it is in texas.
