But what the **** will the bouncers accept? Are they strict for ID and stuff?

You should be fine, but if possible make you way in with some over 18's.

depends what it says on the ticket,

if it says under18's need to be accompanied with adult.... you're fine.

if it says over 18's garda approved id required they id check you.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 181 ✭✭Droogie

So they leave ya outside if ya've no Garda ID? :(

Any1 at Motorhead would know, that was strictly over 18's?

    I'm befuddled

Get some sort of fake id, anything
I was at an 16 and over show so they didnt check id
But i was at a gig where under 18s needed to be accompanied and they didn't bother their arses checking for id
Either get id or pretend one of your friends is over 18 and hope for the best

They're pretty decent. As long as you're not a locked ten year old generally they're pretty sound about under-18's. Just try to appear as if you're genuinely there for the music, not the bar, and if all else fails, find a group of tall people and walk in in the middle of them. :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 181 ✭✭Droogie

But if those gigs were all "under 18 must be accompanied..." Are they the same for strictly over 18's?

Well... I've already got the message to walk in with some tall ppl, regardless... :D

Yeah, in one respect the mini-metallers can be useful. If there ae enough of them lined up outside, the security will pretty much disregard the age policy in lieu of getting people into the venue.

They'll probably only accept Passports or Driving Licences including provisionals.

But the best thing to do if you get checked is to confidently argues with them! For a start let your beard grow (if you can).

But the argument I used to always use is "I don't drive and you people should know it's illegal to carry around your passport!"

(This is because of the hassle for the passport offices have to go through to replace lost ones. It probably isn't illegal, but once mentioned, the security will get confused (because they're usually stupid meatheads) and take your word for it. Just keep a good confident argument going! don't take any ****! Put them in their place. They're just people.

Once the olympia tried to stop me from seeing a GNR tribute because I had no ID. And I just said "Whatever" and walked straight through and ignored him.

But get a fake ID, despite the fact they won't accept it, and use the argument of "I haven't got a passport or driving licence, but I've presented you with a valid form of ID, and I have a ticket, so I have every right to enter this building. If you have a problem with my ID then call the Garda to confirm it's valid, considering you're supposed to report us for fraud if you suspect it isn't anyway!"

Also, if there's not like 10 of you, I don't mind letting you walk in with me.
But if we fail in getting you in, I'm still going to go in without you!

The standard bouncer response to that is "Tough". If you don't drive you're meant to have that Garda ID.

In any case they won't even bat an eyelid. The bouncers at the Ambassador have not asked one person for id that I've seen in the dozen or so times I've been there (yes including "strictly over 18's" gigs, that's written on the ticket for insurance reasons).

Exactly. Sure my friend was telling me, once when she was there, they went around asking ages and when they discovered that there were all of about three over-18's in the queue, they just decided to call it all-ages. They're not bothered either way but I wouldn't **** around with security there. They'll throw you out much quicker if you're underage.
