I've just ordered a pair of Sennheiser MX450s (~€20 on eBay).

The 450s and 550s replaced the 400s and 500s recently I think. The only difference between the 450s and the 550s is that there is an in-line volume control on the 550s.

Some audiophiles swear by these new "in-ear" ones, that actually go into your ear canal and create that "finger in the ear" effect. I got a pair like that over the summer (Sony EX71s) and they were the biggest waste of money. They are impossible to get in right, and I think they're disgusting to use. But maybe thats just me, lots of people seem to like them.

I still think that Sony make the best personal stereo earphones out there. Not a big fan of the in-the-ear buds myself; I prefer the open, streetstyle ones. Amazon do a nice splashproof pair with low impedance and heavy bass response:
    S2 streetstyle
Great for sports when in the ear can fall out, whilst not being big enough to make you look silly...

I really like these - clicky . They're 25euro in Argos here and well worth it.

I have some Seinheisser MX400s and their fantastic. I'd imagine the 450s,500s and 550s would be to.

    The 250s, however, are crap.
